RubyTex 1,957
There are a high proportion of these type of idiots in this town. The type who get a dog one week and it's gone the next, get a dog for dick measuring competitions, or pull stunts that tar us all with the same brush. In fact i'm sure there was a member on here a while back, who's son was poaching on the farmland up the hill from me, and when he was told by the farmer to do one, went home and told his dad (the guy on here) who reckoned he went back and threw a hammer through the farmers 4x4 windscreen??? I'm no lurcherman, and I don't know if that's true, but that is f***ing embarrassing behaviour! The lad's hardly going to grow up an ambassador for Field sports if his dad's pulling stunts like that, is he?!
smithie 2,444
and you wonder why dog men have a bad name the farmer will phone the police next time and it will be a different person who gets caught..
Neal 1,891
The problem with a code of conduct, or anything along those lines, is that everyone has a different opinion. I know it's not exactly a code of conduct but look at the hunting act...somebody obviously thought that made sense else it wouldn't have been passed yet many would disagree. Come to think of it...many would disagree that those who passed it thought it made sense...but I digress. I know we have to have rules in place for many elements of our lives else anarchy and chaos would ensue, but I can't see us all finding ONE way of ferreting, ONE way of coursing, ONE way of bushing, ONE way of digging etc. Eg most of us use a locator when we're ferreting but I'd hate to think somebody could be prosecuted for using a liner or a wait and see approach instead. N.B. Completely off topic but just wanted to add that Socks' comment on cats on page one of this thread made me think of my favourite ever quote. It's by surrealist sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti (I studied Fine Art at Falmouth School of Art): "If a house were burning, I'd leave the Rembrandt and save the cat."
