Mostly terriers iv seen diggin at holes when marking, got one here that does it if you don't tell her after she marks, I genuinely don't mind it aslong as dog stops when you say so, lurcher don't dig when marking nice silent steady mark but can't say iv noticed diffrence in bunnys bolting between what dog marks, suppose it all depends his good the ferret is that's up the bunnys arse lol

so a dog chews and digs at a burrow the rabbit will bolt the same and as quick as a burrow that there has been no noise at ? its all down to good your ferret is lol

Or after a ferret makes contact under ground, or heaven forbid I take my kids with me and they aint as quiet as a chapel mouse lollol I'll say it again for you lol if your ferrets are any good job gets done regardless of who marked what way lol I'm not saying I never have to dig but I'm saying iv never noticed any diffrence wether a mutt dogs at a hole whilst marking or not Edited by Hot Meat

true had that myself bolting after a kill or dig but still think a bunnie will bolt quicker with silence than a noisey dog on a mark

most dogs just slow a days ferreting up with all the extra digging your be doing.

Quite the opposite: dog doesn't mark, you don't even net up. Good dog can anticipate a bolt, catch rabbits from holes you've missed etc etc. Why on earth would you be doing extra digging with a dog there? Oh, I know, if the dog is rushing around the holes, whining, pawing and convincing the rabbits that it's safer to stay below rather than bolt: but that sort of dog is no ferreting dog, and yes, it is worse than having no dog!

In my opinion,...an educated dog, (one that fully understands what you are on),.. adds another dimension to the ferreting game,....I've often had to catch rabbits in places that would not allow a dog to be present,..still caught plenty,..still got paid,.but always travelled home bored, unfulfilled and totally disillusioned.

Also in a situation where there is only one or two rabbits,.laying up within an enclosed area or fenced plantation,.munching the tops of valuable plants, causing immense financial loss,..your reliable marking dog, will save you hours of wasteful searching...

Most dogs will readily help you to locate a beast lost in woodland.

My bitch's mark isnt the strongest, but if she pays attention around the hole there's something in there, c53d7706e2d79fc6c3cd53702c02c041_zps7884http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/ad160/kps1/BEA16E69-CA21-4758-A047-5177C0C1DBA9-3773-0000063DF80ADA8A_zps044dffa2.mp4

Old railway bank mate ??

It's in a old wood yard, basically the banks just full of rubbish that's been tipped over the side, rabbits seem to like it though..
