Traditional Loch Tactics?

Gonna take my boat and fly rod up to Windermere or ullswater soon after the trout, I'm new to fly fishing having only really done it for pike on the canal. Doing some reading on the net and they suggest traditional loch tactics? Can anybody enlighten me? Lol I think it involves fishing a group of flies but how do you tie them together? Is it a group of wets or a dry a wet and a nymph or what? Do you just tie 1 to the bend of the other? I no they arnt the easiest waters to fish for a beginner but I just wanna get my boat out and maybe catch a fish or two. Its either that or I just troll a few Mepps around all day lol

I'm by no means an expert lol but I fished ullswater while there with the family, had lots of little brownies they were almost suicidal lol and took most flys I offered, I don't know any names of the flies tho the guy in John Norris picked them out for me lol I fished whilst wading round the edges and done well and then tried off boat fishing in towards shore and was catching aswell, off boat was better as banks get busy with dog walkers an that but it's real pricey hiring boat but as you got your own you'll be fine, sure somebody will come along and tell you what tactics to use but if not pop into or phone John Norris lol they know the lakes well

if you havnt done much fly fishing, stick to a couple flys for now, or for a few casts? as above am no expert, worked for me, sometimes lol. just tie a dropper about six inches long, up the line

trawling spinners/lures behind the boat for trout, salmon and sea trout works well..and you can kick back with a can at the same time... as for fly fishing, study what is being fed upon... i was cursing myself for having the wrong rod the other day at a hill loch I hiked out to., and should have had the fly rod as there was a hatch of caddis flies or similar and the trout were frenzied it would have been a fish per cast (for a good angler, not me)

Last time I was there, it was late season, the water was colder and I had success with worm fished on the bottom, and without thinking I went prepared for the same, but the fish didnt even nip at the worm, gutted I went home empty handed, wont be the last time lol

Have a read of this it's a good article on tactics for loch style fishing. It's for Tasmania but loch style fishing is the same the world over.

I am hitting ulswater next month, trolling lures and a bit of fly fishing I usually fish two flies a small dry on the dropper, and a gold wickhams or hares ear nymph on the point, or similar do a bit of reading up, thing I find with ulswater is locating the fish if you get amongst them you will have a good day,without doubt,but a lot of the time you are picking the odd brownie up here and there, I put a small boat on now to give me an advantage, get away from the campsite shorelines and you will do ok,

Where do you launch your boat from mate and how much is it? Glenridding is the one my end of the lake but I'm not sure how much it is + parking for the trailer and car?
