right here goes................ my dog had this a year or so ago, vets tried treating with cephalexin antibiotics as it being a bone type infection this was the best antibiotic to use, unfortunately, the circulation of blood to that area of the foot isnt the best so it may not get the full impact of the antibiotics as in not getting to that exact spot. went on for a few weeks like you, in the end had to have part of his toe amputated, bone itself taken out........... few weeks later, obviously with good hygiene practices to keep area clean etc, dog was as right as rain, and its had no effect on his running, turning abilities. Hope this is of some help to you.

I had a terrier several year's ago that would get the same problem from time to time.. the best method i found for clearing the infection up was to put half a spoonful of Potassium Permanganate crystal's in a jam jar and half fill it with warm water till the crystal's have dissolved.. i would then dip the infected foot into the jar for 1 minute 2 times per day and this would quickly clear the infection up..it worked for me so it might be worth a try..

I had her to local vets on wednesday again who said I now had to wait 2 weeks for an xray then to take her toe off I said there was no chance of waiting that long its been long enough. I took her to another vets I use which I should of done in the first place but they are quite far away and they took her nail off there and then they said the nail had a slight fracture at the nail bed and didnt think she needed toe off as that nail was the problem which the other vet did not even notice. More antibiotics and keep it clean fingers crossed that should be it fixed. Thank you for replys

Update on bitch. Its been a few weeks since she had the nail off. The swelling of pad has not gone down but she is walking on grass with no lameness until she walks on stones or rough tarmac then its onto 3 legs. I have been soaking her paw everyday in potassium permanganate as suggested. The toe is not swollen itself but the pad is quite large underneath not sure what to do now apart from take her back to vets for possible amputation of the toe .

Here's why a good greyhound vet is the only vet to see: I had a dog go lame. Slight heat just above wrist, no swelling. Local vet took ONE x-ray: couldn't find anything. Dog still lame two weeks later. Took her to a GOOD greyhound vet who took FOUR x-rays from different angles and the hairline fracture showed up in only ONE of those x-rays. Get your dog to a good greyhound vet.

I used Richard Torr in Shepshed at the Canine Sports Clinic, I think it's called. It's in Leicestershire: http://www.caninesports.co.uk/

But I have to say, the plaster he put on the dog wasn't correct: not high enough up the leg, so it was actually pulling the fracture open all the time :icon_eek: My own vet, who had failed to find the break, put the correct type of splint on a week later as the bitch was in so much pain and there was obviously something not right.

So I would give mixed reviews on this particular greyhound vet, though friends swear by him.
