skycat 6,174
Get some boiled cooled water and suck it up into a small plastic syringe (without the needle on!) then hold the dog's eyelids as open as possible and flush the eye out GENTLY! Don't blast the eyeball with a hard jet of water: try and get it as far back under the lids as possible, and keep repeating: you'll see long worms of silt/dirt gradually washing out from under the edges of the lids: keep at it until the water runs clear. I do this with my terriers as soon as I get them home. Quote Link to post

skycat 6,174
thanks skycat great advice :notworthy:why boiled Sterilises it: not 100% necessary if your'e out in the field but a good idea if possible: don't want to add any unwanted bacteria if the eyeball has been scratched etc. Quote Link to post
montague 0
My terriers have had manky eyes for days after when they've been to ground for a long length of time Lots of tlc & they'll be fine Quote Link to post
redrob... 0
wash out with water, next day if eyes are still gummed up wash out and use a cotton bud, turn the bud a long the eye lids ( be care full ) and the dirt or sand will come off onto the bud, rince off, keep checking cos if dirt is left in it will be very sore for your dog. Clancy 1
Saline solution will give them a bit more added relief if you flush with it. Cheers Quote Link to post

Hi Wash out as soon as finished his job with boiled water took with you and I use a bashing shrings is quick and gets right in to flush shit out leave to dry then put golden eye oitment in as this stops all the scratcing of the eyelids which sand is the worst . hopes this helps a bit. cheers look after your dogs and they will look after you . skycat 6,174
Just wanted to add: if the eyes appear infected or really sore use Fucithalmic ointment after you've washed the eyes out. Its antibiotic and soothing: prescription only but cheaper from the doctor if you say its for YOU! Quote Link to post
