Elliott 436
Hornady claim the HMR is capable of shooting vermin out to 200 yards.. What do you guys think? I tried some shots on paper at 200 yards to see how they grouped 1 Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Nice shooting Elliott. Very underestimated round imo. Quote Link to post
bbs 26
More than capable of whaking rabbits past I've shot out to 250 on a still day Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Depends on the quarry, Small vermin species on a still day it will kill all day long. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Nice shooting Elliott. Very underestimated round imo. Very over estimated round in my opinion 8 Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
But for such a small round it is surprisingly powerful and accurate 1 Quote Link to post
Elliott 436
The reason for making the video is that I started a thread on the BBS about my preference for the HMR over the .22LR. One comment was, "Having double the power of a .22LR doesn't necessarily mean you have twice the range." I find that, in comparable conditions, it does just that Edited June 4, 2014 by Elliott Quote Link to post

Comparable; i.e. similar Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
I wouldnt personally push the hmr past 150yards. Mainly cus I don't need or want to. That's what im getting a .223 for I have a .22 and prefer that over the hmr due to cost, noise and satisfaction. I love the hmr but don't see a place for it once I get the .223 if I'm honest 3 Quote Link to post
bullmastiff 615
Also with a cross wind and at 300yds this guy managed 1 1/2" groupings... I guess getting the ammo that match's the gun certainly helps... Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
Great video Elliot and shows the advantage of the HMR over .22 LR. 1 Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Their are big advantages and disadvantages to both calibres. 1 Quote Link to post
The Seeker 3,048
Very much depends on quarry and IMO wind strength and direction. I haven't had my .17 HMR out of the cabinet for nearly 2 years. reminds me I need to get it up for sale 2 Quote Link to post
zx10mike 137
humanely no but as you have shown with good shooting technique and pure luck with a decent batch of ammo it can give good groups on paper .high risk of a non clean kill in real life hunting situation.the wind has the greatest impact near the shooter and the grass where you were shooting looked still wich helped alot.i switched to 204 after inconsistant ammo and very bad groups in winds. nice group though bud Quote Link to post
