gnasher16 30,395
Mayweather has ruled against the crop thats been around at his time i hate comparasons as they are hypothetical and we all have are opinions but i agree with satan on all counts , what a shame we never seen mayweather v the pacman. , , there have been many good boxers from the states who just never clicked Mark breland marlon staling great am careers but just never made that transition to be great world class pros Although i beleave promoters can kill of careers if the mood takes them !!! But where do you draw the line with " never clicked " they both won world titles and made succesful defences...........all time greats no but how many great fighters can go on an all time great list.........personally id book Mayweather top ten on any all time Welterweight list. i agree gnash but they were superc Mayweather has ruled against the crop thats been around at his time i hate comparasons as they are hypothetical and we all have are opinions but i agree with satan on all counts , what a shame we never seen mayweather v the pacman. , , there have been many good boxers from the states who just never clicked Mark breland marlon staling great am careers but just never made that transition to be great world class pros Although i beleave promoters can kill of careers if the mood takes them !!! Areed nash he beat reyes and i though he was speacial then. Ruled till aron davis knocked him out , But he would not make my top ten. Then starlon was robbed Great era. Im not really familiar with the names your on about the only reason i took an interest in the division at that time was because of Lloyd but my point was theres loads of fighters on course for all time great status who dont reach it but that cant necessarily be seen as failure.....a classic example in that division/era was Don Curry......after Lloyd wiped the floor with him he got sparked by McCallum if you remember.....he was being written off but still came back and won a world title......and as has been said losing to Mike McCallum is no disgrace.............but most would say Don Curry didnt fulfill his potential. gnasher16 30,395
Would del a hoya make your top ten gnash. , another great little group. Jeff fenwick. Trinidad. Etc Not for me mate.....not at welterweight anyway.......be on the fringes but i couldnt put him above fighters like Henry Armstrong or Kid Gavilan,Napoles etc even though im reaching back a bit obviously......and certainly not if your putting Hearns/Leonard/Duran at welter. How did you rate Eusobio Pedroza Gnasher ? Brilliant......sometimes its all about timing of fights aint it.....and wee Barry caught him at the right time i dont think Pedroza ever returned to the same heights as before that fight and if i remember right Mcguigan dominated throughout.......would he have done that a few years earlier,i doubt it. Greengrass 202
A short story about Fenech , he had a really bad dose of small man syndrome at the best of times but when out and about with his entourage he was at his worst. I was in an RSL club ( much like the legion clubs here but a lot more fun) with a couple of mates including one who was about the same build as Fenech and had had a handful of fights mainly as a form of keeping fit and if he won well that was a bonus. Anyway my mate detested Fenech with a vengeance and although a wealthy young man ( i,m going back to when Fenech was in his first couple of years as world champion ) he always let his heart rule his head and bet against him each and every fight, losing plenty of dollars along the way. Anyway I diverse, at the club they had one of those bucking bronco machines as a Sunday afternoons entertainment and as punters were getting thrown of left ,right and centre Fenech and his crowd were getting louder and louder mocking them. Out of the crowd my mate says right across the room , " if you think you can do better than them you get on the f***ing thing " well the great man was,nt used to being spoken to like that but he had more or less been called out in front of everybody so up he gets and you could see he was absolutely raging walking towards the bull giving my mate the evil eye. Silence , complete silence in the room as he mounts the bull and off it goes , within say 15 seconds of he comes onto his arse and my mate lets out the most genuine laugh you,ll ever hear in your life , loudly !!. Fences jumps up and says ok smart arse it's your turn now... And Joe stood within a couple of feet of him and said f**k the bull but I,ll fight you outside in the car park right now for $10 ( the $10 being a figure just to rile Fenech even more ) . Fences stormed out mumbling about not fighting outside the ring which was bullshit as he is / was a liberty taking b*****d, and as he leaves the room the whole place erupted into applause and cheers for Joe. I,ll never forget it.

Greengrass 202
Thing is if Joe had,nt have stood his ground and reversed it back on him by offering to take him on outside I,d of bet money Fenech would have taken a swing at him there and then, but he simply was,nt used to someone standing up to him in front of people
TUFFTY 1,476
Here you go a little bit about Jeff. On 5 January 2004, Fenech was attacked and stabbed by four men in Sydney, receiving facial cuts that required plastic surgery. In June of the same year, the Fenech family home was attacked by shooters; seven bullets were recovered but no one was injured. Australian police believe the two attacks against Fenech are connected, ranging from a bar fight that Fenech had with a gang-member in 2003. The Australian newspaper quoted someone related to a Lebanese gang stating that "they will get him", but Fenech does not believe that the violent events are related. In March 2005, Fenech became the trainer for former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, in an effort to relaunch Tyson's career.[2] Despite repeated denials made in the popular press and on his website, Fenech pleaded guilty to his role in the 2005 theft of 3 gold watches worth a total of $327 from a Gold Coast, Queensland boutique store. There was clear evidence of his involvement from in-store security cameras, revealing that Fenech actively participated in the incident.
Greengrass 202
Good enough for him, he was in the papers not long ago after dropping a load of money he supposedly put up to bring an American fighter over to Oz to challenge for some title or other. When the yank saw what a shambles it was turning out to be he flew home stating he had never been involved in anything like it. Fenech blamed the Aussie the yank was to fight and lo and behold the blokes restaurant/ bar was torched to the ground, Fenech was named as a person of interest but denied all knowledge, naturally. The bloke who lost his bar is no mug, interesting times ahead.
