satan80 358
No i wasnt mate though i was ringside when he beat Herol Graham a few years earlier.....i knew Rod Douglas at the time and he was fighting on the undercard and he,d got me tickets,he got a first round ko if memory serves me right.......but yes McCallum was a fantastic technician always looked like he was just plodding along didnt he but his distance and reading of a fight were second to none.......threw a decent body shot as well by all accounts Yeah McCallum is pretty much as good as it gets for me, every shot in the book and made it look so easy, a real throwback. It makes me laugh when people are creaming their pants about Mayweather and giving it 'the best ever' nonsense, that's why i did that video really, McCallum had more skills than Floyd and no-ones heard of him. McCallum would have stood both Froch and Groves on their heads on the same night, but the sky hype machine has really got out of control, yesterday i read someone claiming Froch is now one of the top 20 p4p fighters of all time. gnasher16 30,393
I know what your saying mate and you are right theres fighters that dont get talked about anymore.....i loved the ,s era of lightweights....guys like Alexis Arguello,Bobby Chacon,Rosario,Haugen etc............Arguello was one of the most complete technicians to ever lace a glove yet he,s been completely forgotten about..... Id disagree about Mayweather though.....certainly not best ever but i do rate him as an all time grea....,different type of fighter to McCallum but yes you are right he was massively underrated....likewise a fighter i dont know if you remember called Sumbu Kalambay ?.....I think he was French or Italian i forget now but he was another really underrated skillful technician he fought McCallum twice in really close fights they won one each but Kalambay won them both i thought. Froch seems a genuine sort of guy to me i think he,d be embarrassed at that himself.
bird 9,970
No im not much of a book reader....who/whats it about ? you ever see any Ali fight's gnash ? or meet him.! The ol man took me and my brother to Highbury for the second Cooper fight but i was only 5 or 6 i cant remember anything about it......the trainer Jimmy Tibbs was like a big brother/uncle figure to us and was fighting on the undercard.... he actually sparred a few rounds with Ali just for publicity this is an old photo he gave me. Around 15 years ago while Ali was over here visiting a gym i managed to shake his hand and he whispered something in my ear but i have no idea what he said unfortunately as his speech was none too clever.......and you just dont say " you what mate ? " to The Greatest do you

The Kalambay - McCallum fights are great, 2 real class operators. Who has Mayweather fought that has that kind of skill level? I'd say only Marquez, and he was 2 weight divisions above his best at the time. I agree Mayweather is a great fighter, but i can't put him near the best of all time because he simply hasn't fought a high enough level of opposition and without question handpicked his fights - ducked prime Cotto, ducked Margarito when he was destroying everyone at welterweight, ducked Paul Williams, and didn't fight Pacquiao for whatever reason. He's unbelievable skilled no doubt, best of this generation, but i'd have fancied Duran to brutalise him at lightweight, Leonard to do him at welter, and at lightmiddle Hearns would have been an absolute nightmare matchup for him

gonetoearth 5,144
Mayweather has ruled against the crop thats been around at his time i hate comparasons as they are hypothetical and we all have are opinions but i agree with satan on all counts , what a shame we never seen mayweather v the pacman. , , there have been many good boxers from the states who just never clicked Mark breland marlon staling great am careers but just never made that transition to be great world class pros Although i beleave promoters can kill of careers if the mood takes them !!!

I don't reckon he would've walked over a pre-Margarito Cotto,or even Margarito himself, with or without his horse shoe gloves. and of course there's Pacqiou too.

zigzag dan 784
One of the best finishers of his opponent Ive ever seen was Azumah Nelson , the way he ended Pat Cowdell was brutal , then went on to dominate his weight for years .
