Popular Post NEWKID 27,295
It was last a bit last minute, but I hoped there may be a space on a charter out of Exmouth for me and Fin when i called Mike last night, I knew he'd been having a few fish, both cod and bass were on the wrecks. "sorry Kev, I'm fully booked.. got a sea fishing club from Bristol down" " bollocks thought I" 10 mins later he called back and said they would let us on their trip.... we'd set sail at 5-30am.."Fin get to bed" After approx 3 hours kip the 4-30am alarm was a killer, but fishing has a way of dragging you out of bed. What a morning, looking back at Lyme Bay was stunning as we set for the horizon... First stop was an inshore wreck for a quick drop for a bass or 2 before we headed out 30 miles or so after cod, the commercial boys were up early and 2 boats were on it already, we stayed long enough for 1 bass around 5lb to be landed, tide was slack and no point waiting. it's a fair old jaunt out, but with a flat calm sea and the sun coming up it was nice to be out, Fin had a quick kip, while I set up the gear. We hit the wreck, and then the fun began... as the angling club were struggling to catch a fish, Fin got the ball rolling with a cod of 13lb.... the grin still hasnt left his face, then I had one that went 16lb, then another, then another... the angling club were in a competition and struggling, they were all good lads, and I got Fin to give them a few tips The fish started slowing up so Mike said we'll have another couple of drifts and move, he was just about to move when I spotted a sharks fin breaking the surface. A basking shark was around 50 yards off the boat, Fin was made up and we saved the drift for a minute to watch... what a great sight, ( phone was in the cabin so no photo, sods law) We'll the move proved successful and we were back into fish, some half decent pollack about to around 10lb and a few more cod up to 11lb. The Boys from the club struggled all day, it's the way it goes sometimes wrecking, only 1 of them caught more than 1 cod (3) we had around 20 between us The day was at an end, and we were clearing decks, when a racing pigeon landed on the deck, it traveeled in with us the 30 miles to Exmouth, lazy b*****d ... Great day, Fin said his best ever cause he caught his biggest fish and saw a shark. 20 Quote Link to post

They managed to fill a box with pout, every fish weighed for their match.. The pout went fir the crab pots. I gave fillets to everyone who didn't catch a cod and filleted a decent ling up for them ( the crew hand caught the ling it was 15lb). I wanted to stay on the inshore wreck and fish for bass, but it was their trip and they wanted to fish for cod. I've got a few coming today for fish, plus a good feast later lol 1 Quote Link to post

Caught f**k all, but what a sight, it was coming right along the rock face. We could only see the dorsal fin and tail on this one, but was enough for fin to think he'd seen jaws lol 1 Quote Link to post
