RemyBolt 420
Hello Derek I hope this is more helpful than the Blowdart Hamster. With permissions, as I'm sure you know, everyone is very protective of what they have. In some areas permissions are like gold dust coated diamonds...rare and guarded. Imagine this as the scene, I have a brilliant permission for ratting. It's one of the UK's largest chicken farms. One of my best mates is the manager, so I have a permission for life. I have been controlling the rats down there for him for a while now, and he says he's never seen the rat population so low in all his nearly 5 years running the farm. As a result, he has 'requested' that I help control many other species on the land and to take them out at my own discernment. AWESOME! Now, this is the issue, if 1 of my pellets goes astray and hits a piece of machinery, gets caught in a belt mechanism, or something like that, it will cost me around the £1000+ mark. A tube was chewed through by a rat, and it cost them £250 to fix. So if the guy controlling the rats costs 4 times more then the damage caused by the rats...major issue. I lose a permission I've been working for a while. It's where I go EVERY WEEKEND. So, if someone comes along and 'has a go' on my permission, under the banner that I'm responsible for their every shot... I had a shot at a rabbit on Saturday, but there was a cow stood a little distance behind it. I spend nearly an hour stalking this rabbit, and was unable to shoot, because of the potential risk to a cow. Same as the chickens, even though they are cheap to buy, if a pellet hits a chicken...I'm in trouble. Even if it wasn't one of my pellets. The reason people are having a bit of a fun and joke about the whole this is because of the effort they've put into getting their permissions. It's kind of like asking Richard Branson to GIVE you £10'000, just because you've asked him for it. The guys here have been knocking doors, getting rejected, trying again, coming back in 6 months time, and the alike. One of the guys here has finally got his first permission in nearly 10 years of trying. If you got a new car, or you have one you love dearly and took ages to get, if someone you had never met or at least never been to the pub for a few drinks with asked for a go in your car....you get the idea. On this forum, it takes a while to get to know people and have them trust you with their permissions. I would let about 3 people on my permissions from here. I have had brilliant help and feedback from them, and their general responses throughout. But they know if they came down, it'd be 100% respectful of the permission and my efforts to get it. So reversing it, if I was on their permissions, I wouldn't risk a stray pellet. I'd be bag boy for the first session or 2. Not because I can't shoot, but out of respect. Link to post
