Whippet X Deerhound

Recommended Posts

Mate of mine has one,,, it's about 2 I think,,,,but I haven't seen it yet so can't comment,,,but he likes the dog and it's had a bit of game,,,,but he's the type to just have a wander here and there for an hour ,,,just mooching a few bunnys a week..

He bought his from over Shropshire way I think,,,I'm sure he said Ludlow way

What size did it make tomo, or do you not know?

Rather than try and put a pure whippet to a Deerhound,..we found it easier to use a big whippet (generally a Heavyweight, Scratch Dog) over a nice, well balanced Deerhound /Greyhound. At first there

I've put this on befor,,,but that bitch in my avatar was some bitch,,,whipp, grey,,,,over a deer, grey,,, although I only have the vendors word on the breeding,,,,mind not quite the same as a straight d

Personaly,...I sometimes feel that folk pay too much heed to mathematical equations, percentages, etc,..making the creation of a roustabout hunting dog,..just that wee bit too complicated...

,he did tell me but I'm flecked if I can remember,,, I must pop over and see him,,

They sound nice on paper,,,,,but then deer, grey crosses,,,are real good looking muts,,,,so I bet there no different really ,,

theres a chap that breeds deerhound x's over here bred a litter from a good coursing/bushing/.ferreting whippet and was left with 3,he couldnt shift them for love nor money,I saw the 3 and they were fine looking animals,I would have thought they'd have been snapped up pronto.he swore he'd never breed them again

would be a bit of a gamble offspring being anything from between 18" -32"..?

The ones I saw at Alan Charles' I remember as being fairly level. I'd think they could vary a bit though.

I don't really go along with the theory of a lot of size range, one or two maybe at the extreme ends, but in the main I think you'd get more that were sort of in the middle of both parents, bitches around 24"ish, dogs around 26". Would be great to hear from people that have bred this cross and kept in touch with who the pups were placed with

Just to clarify, I'm not being awkward, just using a bit of common sense. After all when a 16-17" bedlington gets mated to a 26-27" greyhound, you get get dogs which end up midway in size. Can't see the difference in any other 1st x type with a big height difference

all depends how they throw ,whipps tend to throw there selves in the bitches with large type hounds deerhounds and greys when one considers whippet bbitches can range from 17 half ta twenty one in the pedigree class . I would say a good male of the deerhound xs at 25 would be a good size for the x. atb bunnys.
