litter sister to my dog diesel, i gave her to a mate as a pup, she through towards the whippet in her makeup and only made about 22 tts, i had her back at mine once when my mate was ill, if i went out and left her out the back she would instantly clear the side gate that's well over six foot tall and be at my side before i reached the motor,

I tell you what shocks me more than anything theres still people reading The Countrymans Weekly

I once watched one of my coursing dogs clear an almost 6 foot high wooden post and rails out of a boggy ploughed field after a hare: she was at full gallop, jumping out of mud: she could have gone und

people pleased do not read this and believe it its shit gary lives in cuckoo land and hes a dog thief it was my dog i lent him and he sold /swapped her the mouse bitch       so take this how you

As I stated I am extremely sceptical of a dog being able to do this while coursing. 7ft is 6 inches higher then the doors in your houses. No one is disagreeing that dogs can and do jump higher than that. When a dog does attempt a jump of that height it is usually the focus of the dogs attention and the task at hand, by that I mean the dog places it's self at the right distance from the obstacle so that it can make the jump.

I have seen dogs in the past clear gates and fences to follow their quarry, and yes they have gone on to catch the quarry, but each and every time the dog has had to check before jumping the gate or fence, as it's attention was focused on the quarry prior to the quarry going through the gate fence etc. So basically it did not know that the gate or fence was going to be in it's way, so could not place it's self to make a jump.

i have dogs that will follow quarry through over under or whatever it takes no matter what the consequences are. my younger dog tried to clear a deer fence, an 8ft wide 6ft deep ditch and 3 strands of barbed wire the other side of the ditch all in one leap whilst at full stride and he very nearly made it too

I once watched one of my coursing dogs clear an almost 6 foot high wooden post and rails out of a boggy ploughed field after a hare: she was at full gallop, jumping out of mud: she could have gone under or through the fence but she would have had to slow down a lot. As it was, she came down to ground not far behind the hare, turned it a few times in a grass field before the hare went back under the fence, and she jumped it again and went on to catch the hare on the plough. At the time it didn't seem anything special to me as she was always jumping five bar gates, but never had to jump at a gallop behind a hare before. Some dogs are just gifted and clever enough to suss out the quickest way over an obstacle even when chasing hard.

That's nothing. We have an Italian Greyhound that smashes through concrete walls and shoots lazer out it's eyes!

Your Great Wall of China dog does not impress me Mr Stranger!

Oh, and he speaks French!

The real question for me is, although I'm not into the whole Coursing thing, we genuinely have 2 Whippets and an Italian Greyhound. In the amount of time the article suggests they're talking for, what is going on with the hare and greyhound? Our whippets chase each other and we get the odd greyhound running around with them. Watching the greyhound run is a whole level of crazy speed, even though I'm used to watching whippets run, so I'm kind of sceptical about the whole thing....and I'm new to it all. Even with my limited knowledge, I don't believe it.

I think people often see things that are pretty high, e.g. 6 foot, assume it's above head height (eye-line at 5'8") and assume it's at least 7feet high because it's above their eyeline.

dont know if the story is true or pack of lies but just because some one hasnt got a dog that can do it or has never seen it done does not mean it it cannot be done ive owned 2 dogs that could and have done it in front of plenty of witnesses. the one did it this season.and if willow is who i think he is i saw him dish out his own kind of justice to the bloke concerned a few year back real painfull to watch lo lbut cant ever see the bloke concerned ever doing.it to anyone else again.

When it first changed to the paper format it was ok,even the old gamekeeper articles were interesting, but it went downhill ,and I stopped reading it ages ago.
