Deker 3,478
Help Please I have just had my local council call and they want me to help with their massive grey problem at one of their country parks. Problem, it's about 70 acres and about 60 of which is woodland. Now...I have always found shooting a good option especially spring and autumn when the canopy is poor, and trapping fairly unproductive. My problem here is this park is open to the public 24/7, dog walkers love it, the cats prowl at night, children play, assorted "hoodies" do their worst and courting couples do....well whatever they do! So traps will get nicked or destroyed, poison will kill cats/dogs/etc, gas is not an option, and shooting will cause national headlines, even assuming the council would allow it. HOW DO I CONTROL THE GREYS????? Answers asap please I meet the man from the council tomorrow! Cheers Deker Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,589
SHOOTING HAS TO BE THE BEST , WEATHER THE COUNCIL LIKE IT OR NOT. I WOULD DO IT IN ANOTHER MONTH WHEN ALL THE LEAVES ARE DOWN. ALSO DO IT MIDWEEK WHEN THE KIDS ARE AT SCOOL. DO IT LIKE THE OLD SQUIRREL DRIVES 3-4 GOOD MEN WITH SHOT GUNS . AND SOME TELESCOPIC POLES TO DREY POKE. AFTER THAT , WELL YOU COULD SNARE THEM ON POLES HIGH UP IN THE TREES , AND USE SOME TRAPS HIGH UP . WELL CAMAFLAGED. A GOOD WAY OF CAMAFLAGING THEM IS IN OWL BOXES, THAT OWLS CANT GET IN IF YA SEE WHAT I MEAN . MOST PEOPLE WONT TOUCH THEM . WHAT EVER YOU DO , MAKE SURE THE COUNCIL ARE FULLY AWAER OF WHAT YOU INTEND DOING , AND THEY WILL PAY FOR ANY TRAPS STOLEN. THE OTHER OPTION IS TO TOTALY WALK AWAY FROM THIS CONTRACT, SOME JOBS JUST AINT WORTH THE AGRO TOMO Quote Link to post

wife 1
a set of ladders mate,i have to do it in places,i set the traps where it is hard to spot for anyone else, also i place the traps where it is not possible to climb and the only way to get to them is to use a set of ladders, just make sure you are propping the ladders safe or got someone to hold them while you empty the traps, good luck, been doing alot of squirrels the last few weeks, and got plenty more to do for the next few weeks, dreypoking poles and gun,had 7 friday Quote Link to post

moley 115
just like tomo said ,get yourself some bird boxes made , just the right size for a fenn to sit in the bottom, bigger than normal hole ,fasten them right up high out of reach ,only accessable by a ladder, fill with wheat and forget about them for a few days , rebait as needed, then when our getting a good hit , set your traps, check them every few hours for a day or two , then rebait and start again joe public thinks there nest boxes , made sure the fenn is fixed to the inside of the box so anything not quite dead cannot get away or out of the box , it don,t look good , when a squig climbs into the box its usually caught round the ribs or head and is dead and out of sight Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,693
as much as it grates me i have to agree with moley on this one, if you are going to take the job on this would be the safest way of going about it, depending on the nature of the terrain at this time of the year trapping squirrels under ground is very affective, ie in artificial tunnels or old rabbit holes, or even active ones, but traps must be set well back in. Deker 3,478
Started the job:- 52 on Wednesday 27 on Thursday 53 on Friday All with the Air Rifle (FAC) Got 93 at home and just taken a pic (the rest went to the staff who grabbed a few each day for the table). I can't put the pic on at home because I don't have the facility (or the Camera) all that stuff is my brothers so I've got to get over to him, hopefully today or tomorrow. Deker Quote Link to post
