Part Time Keepers Help Angus

Recommended Posts

This is an unpaid position, our current part time keeper has had to stand down due to family related reasons,

We are a small family shoot covering 450 acres of hill, we have 3-4 days a year around the 100 bird mark. (the usual shot ratio is around 6:1 we have some high drives!)

The position will be to:

  • Help prepare the pheasant pens
  • help with rearing
  • help with feeding
  • running the beating line.

In return for all your efforts there is:

  • 1 Days shooting
  • 1 walked up days shooting
  • at least one duck flight depending on season
  • Rabbit lamping and shooting
  • Fox control

We are looking for a responsible person who has both a Shotgun and firearm certificate, a full driving license and preferably their own 4x4, (there is a non road going 4x4 and an ATV on the shoot)

This is a family run shoot and this role is ideally suited to an easy going but well organised person. who is looking for part time/hobby keepering

my brother and I have run the shoot for the last 9 years we have done 6 years on our own and the last 3 with help from a keeper.

He is no longer able to help due to private personal reasons and has only stopped as he has no choice.

He always did the lions share of the feeding and rearing with the 2 of us helping to rear and get the pens ready. So i suppose the wording should be different the keeper would be doing as much as he could with my brother and i helping him where ever he needed it.

Up to now all the decisions have been talked out between the 3 of us equally and usually every one is thinking along the same lines, we are very open minded to new ideas and welcome change.

Sounds a nice little deal for somebody with the experience and motivation for it. DIY shoots are run like that the length and breadth of the country. I'd sack off the driven day in favour of more walked up but that's just me. I'm sure once you get to know and trust each other new opportunities can be discussed and negotiated.

we always waste days at the end of the season could easily fit in 2 walked up days after the cock shoot but never seem to find the time so more walked up stuff is available and of coarse what was offered is not set in stone.
