Hi guy's, ive had my shot gun certificate for a while but I was wondering exactly how much land you need to apply for a FAC rifle.

Thanks guys

depends on the land itself rather than the size

Ah this debate. I hate when the FO comes to mine to renew my .222. They refuse me on 17 acres yet I have a game farm to run. Surely I qualify for atleast vermin control???

Luckily for me I have somewhere else I can put down.

No game farm now so probably end up getting rid when the times comes round. Too much hassle.

Join SACS, is all I can say.

17 Acres is easily large enough for a CF unless its criss crossed by numerous public footpaths. I find it very hard in the absence of widespread public access that there isn't a safe direction to shoot in!

My friend in Derbyshire had a .22RF cleared for around 2 acres. Now I know a CF is a different kettle of fish, but still, there are people on here getting refused RF on more than that.

He now has an open ticket in any event.

I didn't think they cleared land in Scotland anyway? I was under the impression that all Scottish tickets were "Open".

BTW, to the OP, a simple answer is it depends on the force (as in my example above), but if you have a small parcel of land, join a Shooting Organisation before you apply as then you have a source of land knowledge and someone who will back you financially in a battle with the FEO if his view is unreasonable and if necessary. Not every peice will be suitable but if it is, you want to ensure you get the ticket not an excuse from someone wanting to restrict ownership.

I am completely surrounded by forestry. There's is the usual forestry track that dog walkers use but surely it's down to me thats taking the shot if it's safe or not?

The arguement I had was they would not grant me a license on my 17 acres on safety reasons....yet if I went and got my license granted elsewhere then it would be up too me if I used my gun on my own 17 acres. Now surely if it's unsafe to grant a license then it's unsafe to shoot there full stop!!!

I got a speech there's a guy with a 243 fires five bullets a year threw it I would have no hesitation going up in front of a judge and saying he doesn't,t need that gun you would never guess he was a copper before he got the fao,s job maybe that was you lab your no firing enough bullets ?

You should have the woman now eh? She was the same as the last guy over this matter.

I've had the same shit about not firing enough ammo too. Simple facts are I have 17 acres to shoot foxes on. All these foxes are ones that walk passed my window. So I'm not going to go and fire 20/30 bullets at nothing just to renew my license. I've just got it for another 5 years. At the end of that I'll be getting rid of my .22 but wanting to keep my .222 for the odd Roe.

I thought she might be I never gave it much thought but I never went out for over a year after I got my foot cleaned out and I don't think I've fired 500 bullets since I got my renewal threw so it might cost me the next time my renewal comes up

spending the time down the range/field using large amounts of ammo/cash just to justify to them why we have reason to keep our Fac's and if not used up to the amount that is satisfactory in they're eyes is ridiculous but sadly that's how they look at it, that being said if they took the time and effort to read peoples purchase then they'd probably find out that all tickets accumilated would come to the equivilant of a country the size of China with the same population but all consisting in game animals being wiped from this earth :) lol
