Guest Frank
I paid 300 euro for my whippet pup, which works out at around £200. She is KC reg and off very good working lines ect. Over in the UK, i belive, the same pup would be around the £400 mark. In the past, i have got given lurcher pups, where i have seen the parents run over a few seasons. I think, if you can, this is the best way, stops folks in the long run, advertising as ''FOR SALE, DUE TO WORK COMMITMENTS'', ect. Saying that, i have seen the parents ect of my whippet pup, who has taken to work very well, but, she is a fighter in the kennel. Quote Link to post
Sorley x 32
selling a dog no. buying a puppy would depend on many things. Quote Link to post
minion 29
Would pay as much as it costs to get the dog I want. Paid £250 for my current whippet but would have paid £500 if that was the price. She is KC reg from working stock and I think Itallion Stallion sold himself short selling them for £250. Shows he's not in it for the money though and says alot for him. As for selling - Would not sell any of my dogs. When I buy a dog it has a home for live. Perhaps it doesn't make me a "genuine" dog man as I would keep a dog that was not upto the grade? Quote Link to post

Perhaps it doesn't make me a "genuine" dog man as I would keep a dog that was not upto the grade? Iv herd that branded around the forum quite a bit just lately. What is everyones problem with having a bad dog pts? In my opinion a lurcher is bred to work and brought to work if it doesn't do what i want then i cant afford the kennel space. It might sound unfair but i know that no matter what iv tryed if it still doesn't serve a purpose then i know i wont have the time for it so it wont get any work. And to me i think that it isn't fair for a lurcher to sit in a kennel and get the odd road walk. So the best thing is to put it to sleep. I'm very against passing shite on, if i don't want it then i wouldn't expect anyone else to. Id sooner have a bad dog pts rather than letting it get passed from pillar to post because no one will give it kennel space. its allright saying if it doesn't make the grade then it will still have a place in front of the fire but there is a limit to the amount of dogs i can keep. If iv got a jacker in the kennels its one less space for another dog that could be doing its job. Iv got one that is a fair bitch but is accident prone the only reason she is still in the kennels is because my dad asked if he could keep her as a companion so he will still have a dog about the house when i leave home and take the other 2. If it wasn't for that she would of been in doggy heaven now. If everyone kept shite dogs then it wont take many years before teh quality of lurcher goes down. Its already hard enuff to find a pup out off good stuff and parents doing the job. With out people keeping and breeding from shite. Cheers witton Quote Link to post
jpt 285
What about giving it to someone as a pet? JPT Quote Link to post

I have young kids and they love the dogs. There is no way I would put them through the pain ofgetting attached to a dog then getting rid of it. Quote Link to post
minion 29
I don't believe in telling other lurcher enthusiasts what they MUST or MUST NOT do... Each to his own,.etc,.etc,... But,.unless a jukel has bitten a child or something,..I would never describe it as being SHITE... Lets show some respect for the dogs,...we can't all be world beaters,. Cheers,.CHALKWARREN.... Spot on bud!! Its about seeing the dogs work. Sure we all want to have the best dogs but like you say they cant all be world beaters. It's about being out there. When I go fishing I dont always catch fish yet I still go back because I love being on the riverbank or by the side of the sea. If your dog gives 100 [ercent but the rabbit / hare gets away so what. Its about being there IMO. Quote Link to post
jpt 285
I could not agree more about the point made about RESPECT. If a dog does not turn out to be what you hoped then you can't just kill it! FFS thats like looking at your mut as though it is a spade or somthing! What other people do is their own buzniz but it does not mean I have to agree with it. JPT Quote Link to post

Lurchandhistribe 0
simple way on not adding shite to the gene pool is to have it castrated or spayed. So it costs you £100 quid. Then theres the rescue option invariably well trained dogs i.e does the basics well sit, stay and come are rehomed in no time. Very little stigma attached to rehomed working lurchers but plenty of ammo for antis in killing healthy dogs (in my opinion) Quote Link to post
sighthound1811 6
think it just depends on what your lookin for.....personally the litter i bred out of my greyhound bitch(3/4 grey 1/4 beddy) were given away free to people that i know..guy who had the sire took one, wifes sister took one,two mates took 2 each..only one went to a pet home..but i wasn't lookin for money cos the litter was bred as a favour to my mate who took 2 an he helped me out with food an worming etc etc i was just glad they went to good homes.... allgame 0
everyone has a price and for the right amount of money id definatly sell anydog i own no matter how good it is for the right amount ofcourse although id never sell the sport and id just go and buy another dog also if u hav the space to keep 12 shite dogs then do but id personaly prefer to keep 1 or 2 good ones and put the ones that werent up to scratch to sleep its no fun goiing hunting with a useless dog u may aswell stay home your self and pat it because if thats all its good 4 Quote Link to post
