Can you put a price on your dog?

Recommended Posts

Ok here is a question for everyone who owns a dog. Can you put a price on your 4 legged friend?

I ask because I was laughed at the other day for paying £200 for a lurcher pup. Now I don't think that is that much for a well bred, fed and healthy young dog out of good honest working parents but this chump I was talking with dissagreed. He said I was being ripped off but when you think about how much hard work that goes into keeping a litter of pups then it is not that bad is it?

What would you pay for a pup bred by worker to worker?

Cheers, JPT

yes i can, 1000,000 quid should cover it...lol, seriously i don't know what my limit would be for a pup, but more than likely i would get one at reasonable money because i would know the person well who bred it. :)

I actually got £40 back off the bloke who sold me my pup as I travelled 200 miles to get her. He said put it into the car for peterol! Top bloke or what?

I'd pay what I could afford, but, the two we gave a new home to, one was a £100 and he originally was bought for £500+ and the other came free, cheapest in this area is about £950, but we have been told he cost £2k+ :icon_eek: .

What I think is that if you come across a mutt that has an immediate effect/bond, well money doesn't come into it

we have just bred a litter of lurcher pups all been given to friends that will work them free of charge which imo thats the way it should be but i think 150-200 is a fair price

i agree with the above reply , friends for free and then sell the rest for a resonable price , we charged £150 each pup last time we bred a litter or £200 for a pair

I would pay up to £250 for a lurcher pup as I have spent way more than that on dogs that have turned out to be shite (£450 for a vizsla £600 for a stafford just 2 examples ) so £200 - 250 doesnt seem too bad a price to pay for a pup. I would never buy a pup unless I knew the parents though as Ive done it in the past and its always been a waste of time, and money.
