rusty206 1
Hey everyone, now as some of you probably already know, I lost my big hob on Wednesday last week. So I've decided its time to invest in a locator, I was thinking the MK3 and was just after everyone's opinion? Does anyone know of any places in Australia that I could purchase one? Or would I have to order one off the net? I have also been told that some people attach bells to a collar when ferreting, instead of using a locator? I was just wondering would this cause the rabbits to bolt as soon as they hear the bells? Or would it not really do anything unless above ground? Anyway I'm mainly intrested in a locator, but I would much rather find one to buy in australia rather then ordering it off the net, as I'm still not to keen on putting my credit card details on an overseas site. ATB everyone Rusty Quote Link to post
rusty206 1
While having a look through ebay uk I found these, I know it's only the mk 1, but are they any good? Has anyone had any experience with these? http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/171336342054?nav=SEARCH# Another question, would you find the 8ft adequate for a weekend ferreter? perthshire keeper 1,239
yeh mk 1s (knocker box!) are great but as your out their if it goes wrong you may have a hard time getting it fixed their prone to giving false readings when used near fences ect but they will help your ferreting no end,its the only locator weve had for what? 30 years? the mk2 ares shite and ime not keen on the mk3s..canny work the damm thing right but thats down to me.and yeh 8t is more than enugh for normal ferreting. and its very very unlikely you will get much deeper than that Quote Link to post
paulus 26
bells fill up with dirt and crap so loose there dingaling quickly Quote Link to post
rabbit demon 302
They don't make spare parts for mk1 anymore so if anything goes wrong with it you won't be able to get it fixed. Iv got the mk3m which is decent enough and fixable. Never used bells on ferrets but I'm under the impression its more for the ferreting dogs benefit, give them an idea where the rabbits gonna bolt. I could be wrong though. If the ferrets far enough underground you won't hear a wee bell. I'd go for a good brand new locator. Save a load of hassle. Quote Link to post

rusty206 1
Ok thanks everyone, I think I'll go with that one on ebay, I was watching some videos with the mk3 finder, and it looked quite easy to use, giving you the depth and everything without having to turn the wheel thing Quote Link to post
rusty206 1
Thinking about it a bit more, I think I might as well splash out and buy a brand new one. 1 Quote Link to post

lifelong cumbrian 1,829
I like the mk1 best, tried mk3 but never liked it. I also fit a bell onto the locator collar if I am doing rough ground especially if I am out myself. Don't normally use a bell but do when it helps me. Quote Link to post
