Deben Mk 3 Questions

Recommended Posts

My Mk 1 box broke and I've recently bought a second hand mk 3 plus collars off Preloved. All look in reasonable nick but no instructions came with it. So I've got a few questions I'm hoping someone can answer for me -

# how d'you open the battery compartment on the collars?

# and once they're open, is it obvious which way round the battery goes?

# how d'you turn the collars on and off (they have a magnetic switch thing that looks like a little hammer but I haven't a clue what you do with it!)

Also, the box actually says Terrier Finder 3 (but the guy I bought it off was using it for ferrets). If you turn it upside down it has a dial which seems to click on when you turn it clockwise. It then rotates about a three quarter turn in total. There are 4 letters marked on the case - L, S, I and O. I'm assuming the L and S are the locate and search settings - presumably you just point the dial to L to put it in locate mode and point it to S to put it in search mode? But what are the I and O for?

Also, the box has a sliding control on each side. Is that a volume adjuster? In which case presumably the one adjacent to L and S controls the volume in locate and search modes? And the one adjacent to I and O controls the volume in whatever those modes do?

Sorry for the dumb questions, but this is all a bit high tech compared to what I've been used to :icon_redface:

Unthread the collar out the transmitter, then unscrew the transmitter, battery's will be inside, there should be a 2 wee arrows pointing inwards to a dot on the transmitter. Hold your magnet hammer lol over the dot and swipe to turn on an off, the sliding knobs at each side are on off and locate search. Hold your locator flat in your hand and put it in search then walk around and it'll find collar, when at smallest reading switch to locate on side slides switch and point it to floor and put bottom on floor keep moving about till you find shallowest reading on LEDs and your in, I think the twisty knob is for volume and pinpoint but it's not needed after bit practice, hope that makes sense lol

The dial is the volume control, the sliders on the side are on/off and search/locate. If you switch it on you'll soon know if a collar is on or not. You can turn the collars on with the narrow end of the box too.

Have taken out the collar but can't see how to unscrew - there's no visible thread. And if you assume there IS a thread and just try to unscrew it anyway nothing happens. Does anybody know if there are different designs? Is it possible I've ended up with collars that open differently? (Or am I just being ridiculously over-the-top-thick-as-pigsh*t?)

Thanks lads - have managed to get it going. The problem was that I hadn't taken the collars off - as soon as I did that it unscrewed no bother. Easy when you know how!

Not sure if I've got a dodgy locator or not, but the led readout in feet seems way off the mark. Seems much more accurate just to listen to the pitch of its screechings. Is that normal?
