shropshire dan 467
Hi all im after some personal experience of the cz527 In .223 rifle will only be used for fox control and im not planning on shooting past 200yards. Ive been told that the hornady vmax 55g work well in this rifle and for fox control. Thanks in advance Quote Link to post

shropshire dan 467
Thanks for that. Im looking at the 527 kevlar or laminate. Id really like the stutzen but not the most practical for a foxing rifle Quote Link to post
let'sshoot 11
I have it in American, I reload for it and it loves 55gr - using hornady at the moment, nice solid feeling rifle, nicely engineered, smooth bolt action, way more accurate than me or many others. Very good rifle in my opinion, I have a Wildcat evolution mod on mine - does what I expect it to. Thanks Quote Link to post
andyf 144
Hi I bought a brand new 527 in .223 (1996), it was my first centrefire, and whilst it was well made and felt 'right', I never managed to get it to shoot very well? I started with factory ammo, I think it was Winchester with 55gr soft points, 1.5" groups at best and even then I'd get the odd flyer 4>5" off in the wilds, but 3" was the norm for 3 shots at 100 yards. I didn't have a 'good' scope (Simmons Whitetail Classic)so maybe that was part of the problem? Anyway I started reloading, again first time, but no improvement, other than to confirm that some bullets perform better than others. So I traded it for a new Browning A Bolt Varmint in 22.250, and got a high end Leupold VX3, and that combination was superb from the start. Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Cheers guys. Its nice to have a mixed review. I was originally going for a .22-250 but was put off by premature barrel wear. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
You wont go wrong with a 527 mate, very capable rifle, go for the.22-250 you will not wear the barrel out foxing, a mate of mine got one he bought in the 80s it has shot hundreds of foxes, and is still super accurate, oh and guess what it is a CZ 527 Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Thanks CC will have a look at local ammo availability in .22-250 Quote Link to post
shovel leaner 7,650
I shoot a 527 and have done for years . Its a very good rifle and 223 is in my opinion the best fox round . My bullet of choice is SAKO 50Grain Game head . The kills are very good with this round , they dont go far once they have been hit , and the accuracy is very good . Ive experimented with home loads , but have found very little improovment . Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
cheers. just been thinking and i reckon .223 is best for me as im planning on buying second hand and it will be a big risk buying a .22-250 s/h Quote Link to post

shropshire dan 467
Cheers Chris I might have to take you up on that offer Quote Link to post
slipper 116
No probs mate we can have some fun shooting long range crows, i am going to take charlie callers advice though and get some better reloading gear so I can crimp the bullets apparently it gives you tighter groups roll on game fair lol Quote Link to post
