Steel Erectors & Crane Drivers

Recommended Posts

It's a dying game mate no one is interested anymore

Your right there mate, I've got another bloke starting in June, decent erector, but he's plus 50, you don't find many youngsters at it.

I've put my nephew through an apprentiship in roofing and cladding, he's 20 now and I'm going to start mixing hi in with the steel boys too, you never know he might stick at it lol

I started erecting when I was 17 and getting £450 a week going about like Rockefeller rich as fook pmsl

38 nearly 39 and getting £700 flat self employed + over time looking back over the years the changes have been well shit healf and safety wise when I started we had ladders when they never reach we had to climb full belt and bolts now if you have a cherry picker licence your a erector lol put the fuckers on the steel and the shit them selfs haaaaaa

First clambered around on the rafter backs when I was 19, sat putting purlins on and the old erector so would walk up the rafter and step over you like they were on the ground...lol.. 37 now so similar times mate... Went into the roofing and cladding then for years, could make more money banging the roofs on..

Now merged my company with the bloke I first ever erected/ fabricated for.. He's a draughtsman now, bit older than me, so I'm off the tools for the last 4 years, the works mental, like you say there's not enough fixers either cladding or erecting, we've 8 fixers on the books but rely heavily on subbies...

  • 3 weeks later...

I will mate, we clad KFC drivethroughs nationwide... Not doing the steel at the moment, got a meeting next week and that might change

You'll be in Grantham soon then

Next one for us is in Sheldon ( Birmingham), then Derby and reading,

There's a few contractors on the list so someone else has probably got that one mate.
