Craig Fosse 286
Well hello guys, First I will apologise as I'm on my phone, Well hasn't it been a long time!! Unfortubatly I have had to put the rifle away for the past six months, I was successful in January in getting a job as an airport fireman and I have been away up in Edinburgh training, with that and moving house twice in 3 months (don't ask) I have rarely been out, when I have it's been with the 12g to help the farmer with his pheasants . My life for the past 6 months wouldn't even match an eastenders series but it's slowly back on track Anyway after moving for the second time last week I was sitting down and I thought bugger it I'm going, I have been saving up for an mtc mamba which I'm hopefully getting in the next month! I zeroed in my house yesturday (long corridor... Perfect) at 20 yards so I was bang on and I just fancy going out to mooch around with some pellets. Wow has my permission changed, it's absolutely over grown with elder flower, musterd the works. Anyway after putting some rounds through I am now adiment that there is nothing better for my 200 than aa fields. Although the skirts seems to bend so easily!! After about half hour plinking I thought I would go for a walk, I see a woody land on the fresh mustard 48 yards ranged. Too be honest I stood there (in that weird half standing half keeping ur head down pose that we all do) and I just wondered if I should have a go. I know I can hit that but being out for so long....After a while of watching I moved into position on a half wall covered in ivy and watched it through my scope, after a while it stood clearly alert and I adjust the cross hairs to take in the head to spine into the hold over allowing for drop and squeeze.....Drop... Flutter....silence.... Longest woody taken since I started this game.... Not a big distance for most, but for a woody....afair one On walking over I pulled the feathers apart and have hit bang on the centre of the white neck bar where I was aiming.... Hello to all the old friends on here moxy, daz, baz, piano, mawders etc etc I'm still mega busy but hopefully this is the start of a good summer shooting. Sorry about the pic too photobucket has gone down in my phone and no way of uploading 1 Quote Link to post
Rez 4,957
"Although the skirts seems to bend so easily!!" Ive found this myself, same with exacts to be honest. Just when a few dropped onto the study carpet from about 3ft high. Using Trophies now. Better all round I think. Quote Link to post

Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
Use the bent ones for plinking. I find most of the time they stay accurate anyway.. Nice one on the woody mate its hard to get close when your mooching. Quote Link to post
villaman 9,983
I think you will find the skirts will flair out when fired 1 Quote Link to post
Craig Fosse 286
Oh really? Has anyone tested this, so as long as they are not crushed they can still be used?? Quote Link to post
Mister Gain 1,764
Craig, if you push the round domed head of another pellet into the misaligned/damaged skirt of the dodgy pellet with a tiny bit of pressure, it will reshape. Only takes a second to do. Accuracy is retained I use .22 AA Diabolo Field's. Can't vouch for 177's, but worth a try. Quote Link to post

mark williams 7,550
Welcome back Craig and nice shooting. If its of use to you, i got the idea from a long ago post from Davey - (he used roll your own filter tubes), i use drink straws (much stronger). I cut straws approx` 3" to 4" in length, plug one end with tissue or staple it, then load your good true pellets tail to nose and plug with tissue. Carry them in your top pocket inside an old tobacco tin. Accuracy is paramount. Nearly forgot- tap out your pellets from their tin onto kitchen towel or similar and load the straws.I find the action of putting my fingers into the pellets whilst they are in the tin damages their skirts. atb Edited May 25, 2014 by mark williams Quote Link to post
