Any Caravan Owners ?

Recommended Posts

If there are any on here, who are prepared to face the scorn of others, your advice would be appreciated.....................

The good lady and I have reached an age where camping has lost most of it's enjoyment for us, so we're thinking of trying a little caravan. Just a little 2 berth, so we can go away for a couple of nights at a time, half-a-dozen times a year or so.

We can only run to 600 quid tops, so I know it won't have all the 'whistles and bells', and will be 20-odd years old, but we've seen a few that seem worthy of a second look. I know to be very wary of damp, but that's about the limit of my expertise .............................

In a nutshell, what should I look out for and, probably more importantly, beware of ?

Cheers in advance

Check if its watertight around the skylight on the roof and rubber hasn't perished around the windows . Also checking the floor is strong and get the heaters checked for carbon monoxide . Oh make sure the brakes arnt lock on where it might've been standing for to long.

when you look lift the cushions out and look for signs of damp/rot under the front windows. its a common place for them to rot there. also check the tyre walls are not perished they tend to crack with standing for long periods. last thing you want is a blow out on your way home from buying one. make sure the floors sound. they have a habit of dipping just through the door as thats were it gets the most ware.

you should pick a perfectly usable carravan for that price.

oh and a little tip...... when you park it up for the winter, empty all water from any systems you have in it and place a bowl of salt on the bench -table. it will draw any damp from the air inside
