I Hate This Rabbit! But 2 Squirrels, So It's Not Too Bad.

Recommended Posts

Got up nice and early. Down to the farm.

Stalked up to the patch where I missed the last rabbit yesterday. Wow, he was there, as expected. Just by one of the bricks I was zeroing my rifle at. One was at 35 yards, the other brick was at 45 yards.

Stabilised on the frame of the silo, just like yesterday. Crosshairs on his head, and I take the shot. It hits low! WHAT?!?! He darts behind a pile of sticks, and holds it down there. So I line up on him again. Take the shot. He drops down...clearly dead. Then I reload, incase I need to dispatch, and he shoots off behind the fence and into the woods! Well unimpressed!!!

I search around to see if there's any blood or anything. The only thing I found was my pellet imbedded in a chunk of wood just in front of where he was hiding. Low again! At this moment I remembered what I had zeroed my gun to the 45 brick, and not the 35. This is the luckiest rabbit on earth, no doubt!

I later had some good fun watching some squirrels, but I was unable to retrieve the 2 squirrels I shot. One was a perfect head shot (the only thing showing was it's head, so there's no way it was anything but a head shot haha) and it froze on the branch, but didn't fall. The other also a good head shot, fell but where he fell was soooo hard to get to. I ended up trekking about 25 meters from the gate around the side of the woods, but there was no way I was going to make it to where it had dropped. There was at least 50 meters of thick brush to get through. I was going to hop the fence, but I couldn't get through the expanse of water. When I walked over to the gate and over the bridge, I got part way in, but it was impossible to go further. Not good.

Lesson learned for today...remember what distance you have zeroed at.

Mr Bunny lives to see another day.
