mate of mine asked me do do him a favour a few years back. i friend he had done worked for had passed away over the christmas and her husband had asked him if he could sort out having her grave dug. it was in a rulal place on an old monastery. i suspect it would have being a fortune with it being a new years day burriel. anyway i said yes.

what a days digging. after a foot deep it was solid stone. my mate, a machine by the way and could dig with the best. anyway we were 5ft down and having a right game on. the old farther came over, as he must have being watching us graft on. "tea and cake he said". too right. he looked down the hole and said "be jesus i think thats deep enough!" to say i was pleased is an understatement!

funeral went on and i said i would stay in the background so when the mourners moved on i would stay to backfill. deed done and the husband came over after and placed the envolope in my hand. i tucked it away and headed back to the bar. pint in and sat down to open the package..... greedy fuvker left me fifty notes.! wealthy fella too. never again but i did enjoy the drink that day lol

Worked in a private mine as a youngster it still had pit ponies ... Infact it was the exact same pit that was on the news a few years ago when 3 lads died when they had a cave in ... Anyway every job underground is back braking and hard ... I was working a stall that was only 3 foot high so you had to lay on your side to turn the coal back onto the conveyer belt ... When you blast on you have to shore up the walls and ceiling ... Now all you use is a 5 inch diameter log for the props and one of them split in half for the flat that goes across the top .... After a while I spoke to a few of the lads and remarked that I really couldn't see how them bits of timber were supposed to stop a 3 ton rock dropping ... Well after they all stopped pissing themselves one of the lads explained to me that the timbers weren't there to stop a fall they were there to warn you ... If you heard them splitting and cracking crawl out of your stall like a rabbit with a wild polecat up its arse before you get killed ... That really made me want to go back to work after I finished my cheese sandwich :laugh: ..........

Worst f**king job I ever had was the one that followed after the penny dropped, about half ten, in the pub.

The penny being that the girl in the flat below us had got the environmental health in, because she had maggots on the carpet in her bay window area.

We lived above her, in the top floor flat and we had just a sort of bay shaped, empty 'fish pond' outside our window, of course. The roof of her bay window.

Funny, how things can suddenly dawn on ye, after five pints. I must have been just idly mulling over Maddies Mystery Maggots when I hit me;

I'd thrown a f**king fox out there, a month or so ago! Forgotten all about it! F**king Hell! And now EH were on the case?! :icon_eek:

Yes. It was no picnic. Scooping up dripping carrier bags of slimey, stinking brown juice. Bones and maggots. Rushing them through the flat and down the communal stairs. Then trying to think where the f**king hell to dump them, in the middle of a city! :ninja:

:laugh: Reminds me of the time, years later, when I dropped my guts in the communal hallway of another place. Just as my mate upstairs arrived home with a friend!

Simply working for a living sucks the big one!

But the most sickening job I've ever had the desparation to take would have to be charity fundraising... where you knock on as many doors as you can in the evening when good folks are trying to chill out after work and badger them into setting up a direct debit for some poxy charity. A c**ts job, I felt like one and got treated like one.

Factory work wasn't great either and 3 months working for a NHS data migration company with a bitch of a boss was also shite.

But yeah, working for a living is one pile of STD ridden GASH!
