This time of year I just use wood shavings. When it's colder I use shredded paper on top of shavings

Mine are on straw all year round but they drag it out of the sleeping box's in the summer and lay on it on the floor, got to watch the coats though they can go abit dry on straw, extra oil in there food keeps it looking good.

Cushions, duvets, etc tend to hold moisture. Vet bed, regularly washed, and carpet, regularly changed, is all you need this time of year, or any time, for that matter; as long as the kennel is dry and draught free.
