Minsterhunter 20
Was just wondering if people do or do not wash there dogs after taking them out. I only hose down my pup if she is visually dirty, is this enough or not? Quote Link to post
P5HEN 168
is it a kennel dog? shouldnt be a problem as long as its dry before locking it away for the night, mine gets a good rub down with a dry towel after we been out n thats it, dog should clean itself pal, key word here being "dry" 3 Quote Link to post

bird 9,872
its funny you say that, because I only wash mine down if they been rolling in fox shit etc. otherwise I let them just jump in pools or streams where the water clean anyway. But my son girl said the other day, the dogs don't smell nice like her sisters little pet dog, that lives in a house. I said they live in kennels I aint got to share it with them there are working dogs that live outside, not house pets. But suppose if they lived in the house could make smell nice lol, be hard as both my 2 don't really like water .lol 2 Quote Link to post

socks 32,253
Washing the dogs to much will take the natural oils out of their coats which means they have less protection against the elements .... Dry them as best you can and as long as they go in a draught free warm kennel they will be fine ........ 5 Quote Link to post

Hot Meat 3,109
My dogs get feet soaked and washed after every outing, they get rubbed down with a dry towel and my hands wether wet or dry, it don't need done every time but when the fields are soft and muddy it clogs up nail beds, iv learnt hard way it's easier to spend half hour after we get home than have them laid up through sore feet. As for proper baths or washing them, only when they need it 2 Quote Link to post
toby1066 413
feets most important always do them in warm salt water check for cuts etc specially so with all this talk about this Alabama rot they reckon if a dogs any sort of cut in its foot that's how it gets in through contact with the soil Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
As said above just look after the feet and make sure the dog is dry before going away. Mine get a brush down probably once a week and a proper bath with shampoo etc about every 4-6 weeks. That's only because they come inside a lot and they sneak on the sofa. Lol. 1 Quote Link to post
leegreen 2,153
Washing your dogs after every outing, not only are you ruining their natural protection, you are making yourself look ........gay . Change their bedding regular and take them out in the rain often enough and they'll be fine. 1 Quote Link to post
