blackmaggie 3,376
well fireman if any of the money he helped raise provides any kind of cure or helps any young person and there family coping with that terrible illness then i think he deserves some kind of mention i wouldnt call him a hero more of a inspiration and yes the people you mentioned are heroic in there work and actions but when consider a massively over paid footballer or actor gets called a hero or gets a m b e or whatever for there chosen career then im sure it does make his short lifes achievements worth peoples respect
Astanley 11,580
Hero ,saint , ? its only semantics ,call him whatever you like , that young lad has been an inspiration to me , and to quibble about what label to put on him seems a bit pointless . RIP and god bless you young fella .
Frann 882
Hero means a different thing to different folks and I agree, pointless quibbling over labels. RIP Stephen, world needs more like you.
Popular Post socks 32,253
Sorry but i don't think he's such a hero,ok he raised a few quid while he was dieing but he didn't do much for others before that and that don't make him the saint others see hm as,there's plenty of folk who raise more and because they ain't dieing there not really recognized and just because this fella was dieing some think him god like, every day firemen, soldiers, nurses all do more for folk and they don't get praised.Sorry but to many false hero's in this world for me and im sorry a young man at the start of his life has died and i don't mean to disrespect him or what he done but come on.. You don't need to fight in a war or pull someone from a burning building to be a hero ... That lad who was only a teenager put all his self pity aside and through his sickness pain and countless bouts of treatment plugged on and did his utmost to make as much money as he possibly could for the charity in the hope that in the future teenagers like him won't have to die a horrible death ... In my book that makes him pretty heroic ... And let's not forget he has been raising money for years with no media coverage ... It was the tv stars that jumped on the bandwagon that brought him the recognition ..... RIP young man you were very very brave and in my eyes a hero in the purest form ........
neems 2,406
He committed to a good cause and followed through despite the pain he must have suffered,I think he carried on with his events until just a couple of weeks before his death, didn't he? that's as clear an example of bravery and strength as I can think of.
NEWKID 27,372
Put any title on the lad you want, it really doesn't matter IMO He has my total respect and admiration, to fight such a cruel disease and all the while show no self pity, raising awareness and money at the same time... Top man in my book RIP...

*The*Field*Marshall* 674
Someone said they felt like they was being being "duped" and when he went home after "coughing up" a tumour it did leave me thinking hmmm is this all genuine ? . . When I heard of the lads passing, it left me feeling humbled, in more ways than one. . An inspirational hero is no less a title than that lad deserves. . A fitting reminder of the quote "it's not the years in your life but the life in your years that count" R.I.P - thoughts with friends and family also. .
blackmaggie 3,376
fireman didnt you have a addiction if so what have you done to help others who you know will go through the same withdraws as yourself feck all more than likely you named a few whose job it is to save lifes that is there chosen career that they get paid for with pensions stephen sutton chose to try and help other teenage kids he tried to the most in the time left and raise money in the hope it might help someone or there family and at 19 when most would be feeling like they had been cheated out of a life he tried to do something positive

readie 184
cant believe anyone actually has anything untowards to say about a young teenager who even though he knew is time was nearly up managed to get over 3 million pounds donated to a cancer charity.hero is used to much sometimes but in this case hes a hero,as fireman pointed out theres soldiers, police etc, well yes there is thats there chosen job and they get paid for it,this lad got nothing back as he lost his life but still ended up helping others in the hope they can have a fighting chance against this awful disease.ive done a lot in my lifetime ie served my country etc but il say this, lad who gave everything did more in his short life than i will prob ever do in mine RIP stephen a legend.
Brigzy 1,298
He sounds like a hero to me ! If anyone disagrees with that, maybe it would be better not replying, as hero means different things to different people.
