mturner85 9
I was talking to a friend of mine over the weekend who is interested in taking up air rifle plinking with myself, but back in 2003 he was convicted of GBH and sentenced to 7 years of which he serviced about 3 years 8 months. He thinks when he got out he signed a lifetimes firearms ban. We've looked online and can't find if this would affect him using a sub 12 air rifle as everything we've found only states firearms with live ammunition. Can anyone help? Quote Link to post
moxy 617
Likely that it only applies to a section 1 firearm. Quote Link to post

walshie 2,804
The answer is NO. Airguns are included in the legislation. Section 21 of The Firearms Act 1968 Main points to be aware of: • Anyone who has been imprisoned or subject to corrective training (including young offenders institutions in Scotland) for a period of 3 years or more cannot have an airgun or ammunition in his / her possession at any time.• Anyone who has been subject to corrective training (including Borstal) for a period of less than 3 years or has been imprisoned for a period of over 3 months but less than 3 years can use an airgun after a period of 5 years after release, but they cannot own an airgun of their own.• There are other specific situations outlined by Section 21. It is advised that you familiarise yourself with these points as well to ensure that you are shooting within the law. Quote Link to post

walshie 2,804
Shame that. Anyway way of appealing? Fraid not because it's not a one-off judgement, it's a law in general. Quote Link to post

mturner85 9
I no people down my club who have been to jail who own full bore rifles. Makes no sense that you can still buy a air rifle, it's crazy. Quote Link to post

If it's more than 3 years, it's a lifetime ban. Quote Link to post
