spartan 99
I've got a greenfinch hen that's laid three eggs in one nest but one broke and the other two are fine but she's also build anther nest and laid one egg in that but it had broke as well but she seems to not be sitting on the two eggs she's laid
Millet 4,497
It sound's like she is missing something in her diet if the egg's are brittle and keep breaking.. get some cuttle fish / oyster shell grit in there and load's of chick weed as that is full of absorbable calcium.. you can't make her sit though until she is ready..
fireman 10,926
Good advice millet and also if it were me i'd take the laid eggs out and put them somewhere safe and replace them with dummy ones in both nests until she's chosen which nest she wants then slip the real ones under her once she's sitting hard,The eggs you took away will be fine for a week or so in a coton wool filled box in those draws in your safety porch,i also have dummy eggs if you need any but i'm sort of stuck at home today but can drop some off to you later when i pick up Tlyer from the college bus (spartan will understand what i'm waffling on about ). Also check it isn't any of the other birds breaking those eggs if you can,any of them looking at her nest or into it,the greenies chasing a particular bird, that sort of thing .

fireman 10,926
If it looks like she's messing and those eggs will go to waste i have 3 goldie mule hens sat on nests so we'll put them under one or two of those.
