Afew Outings With The Hw100Kt .177 On The Rats

Recommended Posts

No problem with the .177 if it can smash a rabbit over at 55yrds I don't see why anybody would question the .177 I think the 177 out ways a .22 any-day plus with the .177 at night you never really miss quarry misjudging distances with HO and HU.

nice video mate. think im one of the lads that mark was on about. I too use a 100 kt in .177. a few weeks ago I arrived at my permission to shoot some rats. I zeroed before putting mt ns50 on the rifle, got sorted and shot the first rat. I didnt take it cleanly and it was a runner. not nerves, but it ran off. I put it down to it being my fault. I shot the next rat and same thing happened, but managed to shoot it again and dispatch it. upon checking my zero I found it had crept slightly. this was why I wasnt finishing the rats cleanly. ive had no problems before or since. it wasnt a question of power really. I know that the .177 is more than enough to do the job. ive taken thousands of rats with it. at the end of the day if you put a 4.5 mm hole through a 12mm brain it stops working. my question was would a .22 pellet have had much of a difference.??? would the energy transfer have been enough to stop the rats dead in its tracks?? im basically trying to justify to myself the 2 shots. I know they are rats, and are vermin, but I like to be as clinical as I can and do it with the least amount of suffering possible.

p.s I went out last night and had about 25. all clean shots.
