jak n meg 4
make an artificial earth and get a fox brush on a peice of string, use a ferret to get the string through then tease the pup with the brush and slowly pull it through letting the pup follow works for me Quote Link to post
Guest SHOT
the best way i think would be to just get them out with other dogs let them hear/watch whats going on have them around top why your breaking through, let them have a look . ive let pups follow a trusted dog on occassion in places i know to be empty. ive never worked a border but im inclined to beleive its a myth borders being slow to start as this traits in all types maybe more a line thing than breed. edited spelling.. nelson 0
I wouldn't encourage them too much to go to ground if there's nowt there myself, their natural instincts will lead them there when they want to go any way. In the meantime, have them killing rats or other useful work and be patient, lets be right about it here, if they're 8 months old now your not really going to be digging to them this year.So another 12 months mouching around is going to do more harm than good. Just my opinion mind, although in my house, my word is law, (when the wifes out ) Quote Link to post
crazy_hunter 0
cheer's pal not a bad bit of info will take it on board, cracking comment that (when the wife's out) Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
So another 12 months mouching around is going to do more harm than good.Don't you mean more good than harm? If you've just got the pups at 8 months old: what sort of an upbringing did they have before you got them? If they've not been out of the kennel much, or at all, then expect them to be slower to get going than if they'd been out in the fields from little pups. Quote Link to post
