20 Bore Or 12??

Recommended Posts

I've seen a nice little Franchi harrier 20 bore at a decent price, I have never shot a 20 bore for game shooting does anyone have any preferences or advice?

I haven't as yet tried the gun for the all important fit but the measurements seem about right

I have a Franchi semi auto which is a brilliant gun and hasn't given me a spot of bother so I'm not put off by the Franchi name.

I do a fair bit of game shooting theses days from driven grouse to pigeons but I still love a day in the rough

rabbit shooting over all of them

i only ever use a 20 now, light to carry and just as effective as a 12 only drawback is the carts are slightly more expensive and that is noticed when doing a fair bit on the pigeons

Aren't some 20 bores built on a 12 bore frame so they can be easier on the shoulder if your doing a lot of shooting or are slightly built

depending on which one then yes, lanber ect are i believe on a 12g frame, the idea of a 20 is a lighter gun yet i see people using 34g carts, kinda defeats the object :laugh:

Aye the 20 bore was always considered a step up to a 12 bore or the ladies equivalent of the 12 bore

like most things in life you find as you get older things go backwards, i will be back to a 410 in years to come

if your a good shot then a 20 bore is as good a 12 bore imo

Aye my son had a 20 bore but due to his build and shooting he would manage a 12 bore no problem

if your just doing general rough shooting or hide shooting then 20g will be fine .mind you some model can weigh the same as a 12g.yrs ago i had a rizzini 3" chamber .and that was quite heavy.

I like the 20 for rough shooting because mine is lightweight.

Like Paulus said, it is pointless carrying a 20 then weighing yourself down with heavy cartridges, not to mention your shoulder when you fire them through an already light gun. Never found the need for more than 28gr in a 20 or a 12 to be honest.

I've seen that a lot Paulus then they moan cos they've got sore shoulder, muppets!

I started on a 12G (Lanber Sporter, it was light mounting a fence stab to my shoulder lol), went on to a 20G (Browning Citori) and then back onto a 12G again (Lincoln Premier Gold, fab gun) which is actually lighter than the 20 I had lol.

But yes the fact the 20 cartridges are dearer irritated me and also by going back to a 12G I can mooch cartridges off boyfriend
