the fault on the engine is that the bolts/studs that hold the big ends onto the conrods were to small a diameter, thus through time usually 60/70 thousand they begin to stretch thus knocking the big ends out , I drive the early navara 2.5td d22 2001 it has a much stronger motor, mine is now over 170,000 ,if anyones after a navara theres an outfit near to me buys them in with f,,,,d engines ,rebuilds them and modifys the problem and gives you a 2year warrenty on the bottom end ,and hes quite handy price wise, I can pm his number if any ones interested ,Newcastle area

Nice shout that

the d22 is the one with the crap bearings, if you have one with the standard motor still running (unlikely I know) whip the motor out and fit bearings and ARP bolts from milner 4x4 and change the oil every 5k, the d40`s are starting to suffer from electrical faults, mainly the main connector in the drivers footwell, and if you`ve got one, wax the chassis, they rust badly

I had a 04 D22 several year's ago i changed the oil every 5000k.. when it got too 90k on the clock the bag of shit went bang on the motor way..

Exact same as mine. I think Belucky has just explained why that happened. It was a known fault with the D22 engine.

If anyone has a Navara with the D22 engine and you start it up in the morning and you hear a 'ticking' noise from the engine. Burn it!!!!
