food for free 0
ha ha aye as i say tho my uncle got it there a few years back now iam guessing its a mk1 or 2 as its that old, he says its older than me so thats going back 30 odd years. yeah i think the rear sight is on the barrel as thats where its drilled but as you can see the rear sight is missing. will let you know how i get on with the stripping down and new seal tomorrow. Been firing it today and it seems to be falling quite low, plus the power seems low, i was hitting a wax candle today and from about 10 yards they were only putting a 5mm dent in it and bouncing off, pellets were quite flattened tho plus the wax wax quite hard due to the weather. i think it has quite a bit to do with the main breach seal being past its best, almost useless. how much did you pay for a new seal. anyway we will see how it performs tomorrow after overhaul, then maybe i will give the new stock a go Quote Link to post
T78 4
i had a spare breech seal kicking around from a while ago so dont know the new price.not dear though. if yoiu want a rear sight pm me your address and ill post you mine as i wont be putting them back on. Quote Link to post
jasper65 6
here are some pics of it in its current state.is the washer/seal which is shown in the two pics with the barrel broken, the main seal in the system. It looks pretty buggered like. how do i go about removing and replacing this. Forgive my ignorance i am more used to the shotgun, i ve just acquired this as a project and maybe to nail some rabbits. Hello Mate I have replaced a few Meteor and Mercury Breach washers in the past. on some that don't look too bad but need raising a bit I removed the wahser with a pin, rolled up a few layers of silver paper and pushed this into the Breach recess on the Barrel, now if you put the Breach washer back in you'll see it has raised it a bit to make a better seal, you might need to put a thicker peice of silver paper in until you're happy with the seal. If you look at the Breach washer you'll see a small pin slot on the inside of it to allow you to remove it with a pin or something simular. One thing about the Meteors is in my day they was considered a Plinkers gun averageing around 10ft/lbs tops, you can tweak them a bit but they do pretty much lob a .22 pellet. having said that you don't need much poundage to stop a Rabbit with a head shot.... food for free 0
right then. Went to the gun shop this morning and picked up a new breach seal for £1.50. When i removed the old one it came out in bits, the plastic was totally corroded. Took a while to get all the bits out. I then had a few shots the same as yesterday into the wax. Amazed with the results. Pellets are certainly not bouncing off anymore, sinking well in. The pic shows the original three shots before the seal was changed and the the three after. What a difference. I then proceeded to strip the gun down. cleaned a lot of grease and grit from spring and mechand put it back together. Only issue was the trigger spring, one side is snapped therefore spring is weaker but does not affect anything. Will give it a go with a scope and see how consistent it is then think about a new stock. cheers Quote Link to post

celticnomad 0
Can you tell me the final outcome of your tuning? What power did you manage? I've overhauled mine Mk2 with new seals, O'ring, leahter washers and a Titan XS mainspring. I don't have a Chronograph but SOFTCHRONO is giving me about 12fpe now. Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
The master tuner( john bowkett)did them and got 11 ftlbs out of them, beyond about 10 they can get a bit jumpy unless your careful Quote Link to post
andy s410c 60
Be careful what mainspring you put in the Meteor my first ever airgun was one bought it off a old chap don,t know what MK it was but it was older than me at the time.As a power mad teenager i put in a Ox spring when i eventually got the bl**dy thing in i could hardly cock it the trigger sear was solid when i did fire it on the second shot the stock disintergrated i don,t know if the standard spring will give you enough ft/lb for hunting but im sure the local gun shop will run it over a chrono for you when its up & running Quote Link to post

celticnomad 0
For interest, I recently completely overhauled my BSA Meteor Mk2 and now get a lovely, crisp 11.8FPE. How did you get on with yours? Quote Link to post
