food for free 0
as you may have read i am refurbishing am old BSA meteor. I am considering making a new up to date stock probarbly a plywood laminate, as this appears to be the easiest option for my first attempt. Before i start this i need to confirm the integrity of the mechanisms. I am going to strip it down and give it a good clean (the gun is at least 20 years old). I have received a good link with details of how to give it a good clean but how do i know if a new spring is required? and what are the other main things to look out for. when i do the stock i will put some pics up cheers. Fortunately, I have never had to strip a rifle but I would fit a new spring assembly anyway as a matter of course, be it the proper BSA or an after market one................Al Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
look at replacing the breach seal, the o ring. Quote Link to post
T78 4
well, finally got mine back together, cleaned, polished and relubed. reassembled easily apart from the trigger(sears slightly polished) which i thought would be a pain(pm me if you have trouble with it) but 3 trial and errors and its back in place. i only replaced the breach seal as every thing else looked in good order.it cocks and shoots a lot smoother and sweeter now and should improve as it beds in as there is a tiny bit of dieseling. i decided just to strip and paint the stock matt black,i know its not to a lot of peoples taste,me included! but its just to tidy it up when its dry i will get some pics up. Big bald beautiful 1,231
i would have fitted a better two stage trigger, there available at about £15.makes them much nicer to shoot. they take a good bit of tuning to get them running at above 10.5 ftlbs Quote Link to post
Chid 6,583
hi just been offered one of these for 40 quid is it worth it Quote Link to post
T78 4
if its in good nick, its well worth 40. but as the reply above says, just dont expect a full power hunting rifle! Quote Link to post
feeble 0
where can you get a 2 stage trigger from? i bought a mk3 the other day as a bit of a project and could do with one. cheers Quote Link to post
food for free 0
here are some pics of it in its current state. is the washer/seal which is shown in the two pics with the barrel broken, the main seal in the system. It looks pretty buggered like. how do i go about removing and replacing this. Forgive my ignorance i am more used to the shotgun, i ve just acquired this as a project and maybe to nail some rabbits. T78 4
yeah, thats the main seal, the breach seal, just carefully prise it out taking care not to mark the metal, and press the new one into place! easy! Quote Link to post
food for free 0
champion....... whats the damage for a new one? a couple of quid? Had a good look at it today. How do you get the spring out? do you remove the large diameter pin in the end? Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
that wood works been stripped Quote Link to post
T78 4
yeah, the pin at the end of cylinder. but you have to take the strain off the spring cos the pin is recessed at the back for the rear of the spring guide to sit in. the meteor spring isnt under a lot of pressure. i managed to do mine without any special tools. food for free 0
cheers should be able to give it a go tomorrow. Hopefully my local gunshop should have a o ring seal for the meteor in when i go tomorrow. Naa i dont think the stock has been stripped, my uncle got the gunb from wolworths around 30 years ago. he hasnt said anything about stripping it in the past and it still has the teeth marks in on the butt where his first springer pup chowed it...lol Quote Link to post
T78 4
do you know what mark it is? i think mine is a mk5(but looks older!!) but its a funny gun cos the rear sight is at the end of the cylinder and the barrel isnt drilled for a rear sight... had these guns before and the rear sight was always on the barrel Quote Link to post
