Blackbriar 8,569
"either willing to pay or willing to wait longer" Unless you have money your ancestors will be turning in their graves, they gave us a service to be proud of. It was showing year on year improvements in outcomes, waiting times etc etc up until the last election! Not perfect pretty good and improving. What are we doing with it both the conservatives and UKIP want shot of it, privatisation is a step back. You want to be proud then the NHS is something to be proud of and fight for! Where does that say that Farage endorses an article by his health spokesman ? If you think Labour are the saviours of the NHS, just look at the mess they are making of it in Wales ! Two things that would really help the NHS are - 1 - A massive reduction in the bewildering, labyrynthine bureaucracy and management structure that has engulfed every aspect of healthcare, to the point where it is little more than an exercise in pointless targets to meet, and meaningless boxes to tick. 2 - A system to reduce the amount of missed appointments. 1% of the NHS budget is wasted simply by people not turning up - almost 7 million missed appointments per year, each costing around £125 !

Large parts of the NHS have already been privatized by the back door. My wife's last three appointments have involved tests and examinations contracted out to private companies - public money going into private hands ! This government have gone one better and given the entire management of Hinchingbrooke hospital over to a private company, Circle Healthcare. Everywhere you see this constant undermining of hospitals - targets, special measures, CQC investigations etc - in a not-very-subtle move to 'soften them up', easing the way, prior to privatization. Anyone concerned about 'two-tier healthcare' should wake up and realise that we've had it for years ! Edited May 8, 2014 by Blackbriar

Take my wife's last hospital appointment as an example - Get someone to print and post a letter. Someone else now enters this information on the IT system. Have someone retrieve her notes from central records and take them to the relevant department on the day of the appointment. Next, you'll need a cleaner to keep the department in a suitable state. Mrs.B arrives at waiting room. Only now does a trained nurse shout 'Next', so that the good lady can spend half an hour or so with a consultant neurologist (trained at very great expense and paid a suitably hefty salary). The conclusions will need to be typed-up and posted to our GP, so his records can be kept up-to-date. If she doesn't bother turning up, the first three people have completely wasted their time, but must still be paid, while the medical secretary, the nurse and the consultant (whose time is much more expensive), have not had their working time used fully, but must still be paid. In truth, I the figure of £125 is probably quite conservative and certainly wouldn't properly reflect of costs in London, for instance. OK ? Why is it so difficult to cancel an appointment properly, so it can be given to someone else ? Edited May 9, 2014 by Blackbriar
Born Hunter 17,780
Wasn't it also mentioned how UK doctors are payed considerably more than their European counterparts and yet the likes of German doctors are considered better? Just pissing money into a welfare system because they can and not because it's economical or efficient to...

WILF 47,226
In all fairness you would have to be blind not see that all the mainstreamed parties and their media lapdogs have been all out trying to dig up the slightest bit of nonsense on anyone or anything associated with UKIP.......it's a dirty tricks campaign the likes of which we have not had the "previllige" to witness for a long time. Personally, I find it quite reassuring that UKIP have a few people that hold some "nutty" views.......most real people do. Give me that any day over the pasteurised, homogenised, bland party automatons trotting out their bullshit to follow the party line so they can get re-elected and keep nicking our money for another 5 years !

You want to be proud then the NHS is something to be proud of and fight for!Do you believe in the NHS "at any cost" ? Do you believe it should be a bottomless pit ? Is their room for improvement in treatment and service that does not involve throwing bucket loads of money at the problem so that everyone can just carry on like before? One of my close friends is a mid wife, head of her ward in fact. She has 3 kids of her own, comes from a very large family and has been round kids all her life. She is what I class a normal person, good at her job, no bullshit, know what she is doing.........she has just been suspended from her role for daring to tell another mid wife that she was shit at the job !!.........and let me tell you, I have birthed 4 kids and some of them are useless !! Now that's real world, if someone's shite then they are shite and should be told so!........not so however in the NHS it seems? It's like fight club, the first rule of the NHS is that you don't talk about the NHS ! Lol There are thousands of very mediocre people in the NHS doing shit work and ruining the moral of all the very professional people in there giving their all for a vocation they love! But no, we can't talk about them, it's all sacred, a no go area......well it's about time we started talking about them and its about time we started talking about all the wimps sat in waiting rooms for no good reason. In short, lets stop bullshitting on the NHS because we are scared of the reaction and man the f**k up . Edited May 13, 2014 by WILF
