doie1 22
I am looking to buy my first rifle and locally found a second hand cz 455 varmint 17hmr and a brand new savage arms AT SYN 17 hmr. Has anyone had experience with either or these or Any advice on which is better and should I go new or second hand? Thanks Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Nothing wrong witg second hand mate and id personally go for the cz. I have a late 70's brno/cz mod2 .22lr and 2013 cz hmr and they are both awesome rifles very reliable and accurate Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Go for the cz mate, second hand will be fine, just give it a good check over before you pay. Quote Link to post
Lelandsdad1 4
Have you got your licence yet just make sure it's in your budget as there getting more expensive. You will soon be looking at a £1000 setup and I'm sure the lady won't be happy with that Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,780
Well the 455 is what I bought and really can't grumble. 1/2" groups at 100 yards with Hornady V-max. 455 17hmr 20" TH stock £450 Half decent scope £200 Mod' £40 Bullets /50 £12 Lovely action and well machined for such little money. Trigger has a little to be desired mind and I'd have prefered the 16" barrel. I wouldn't clean it too often either as I've found it takes 25 shots to settle again! Can't comment on the Savage. meldino2005 39
Go for the cz mate, i have the 455 and cant fault them Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
I agree the savage may have a better trigger but for less than £20 you can fit a trigger kit to the cz and have it how you like Quote Link to post
irishnut 297
I have a cz 452 in 17hmr with 16" barrel. I did the trigger job myself and have to say its now a magnificent bit of kit. Quote Link to post
doie1 22
Is it fairly straight forward to do the trigger? Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Theirs plenty of vids on youtube mate. Id send a link but not sure how to on new phone lol Quote Link to post
alan81 110
I had a savage 93R and now have a cz452. the savage has a very nice trigger but I would never swap my cz for another savage. the cz is lighter and easier to shoulder. as for the cz trigger I never changed mine I just kept shooting away and broke the trigger in and now its very good. my advice is cz all the way.
