Air Rifle Suitable For Starting Out With On A Budget

Recommended Posts

Hi guys and gals,

Looking for some advice as above.

Thinking about getting an air rifle for mooching about on permission, powerful enough for shooting rats and rabbits. Not looking to spend massive amount of cash but wondering if you guys can give me any recommendations of brands I should be looking at.

In my teens I used to ratch about with an air rifle, can't remember the kind but it weighed a ton and was kind you cocked by breaking it and drawing barrel round and cranking it. It didn't have any added scopes or anything.

I've got SGC and use 12G Lincoln. Quite fancied putting in for my FAC but for amount of ratching about that I do I am wondering if I could just go for an air rifle instead?

Not sure if I am looking for gas powered etc, don't really know a lot about air rifles nowadays so thought would ask on here.

Cheers

Jenny

Just a quick point to add to that message. If you do for a tx, hw77 or a 97 or something like that, you are getting a real quality accurate hunting tool not just a plinker and if you look after it, it

Best idea is to tell us your budget. HW do some nice springers, especially if you get a secondhand one with all the problems sorted out, just ask Pianoman!

Perhaps, and some may come back with some different options, [lets bypass Gamo for a minute], your looking a BSA or a HW springer then.

Check these out:

BSA Supersport

BSA Lightning

HW57 through to 95 depending on price < Quality springers as Im actually finding out myself.

As above, do ask pianoman. He'll advise much better.

I will echo valboskie and go for a second hand tx or a hw. I have owned quite a few bsa lightnings over the years and the last few have really disappointed me. Thats just my opinion of them, lots of lads on here will have had more luck but you really cant go wrong with air arms or weirauch.

Having a Tx200 and a BSA Lighting, I did prefer the lighting..

If you can get a Hw95 scope & bag for your budget its a better riffle.

I reckon as time goes on you will want to upgrade...

I would save more, till you have the right money and get PCP around the £350 mark with pump, bag & Scope..

Something like a Multi shot ,Scorpion or AAs200

I would be looking to pay £150 for average springer with the scope & bag..

Shop around Facebook is full of scammers though :victory:

Thats great, thanks for the replies guys, gives me definite starting point. I'll have a look online tonight :)

If it came to it I'd just save for longer to spend bit more.

Thanks again.

Ignore the BSA advice, all you will pick up in your budget are Spanish made pieces or rubbish that make SMK look good!

I would steer you to saving up a bit more, you are nearly there, get yourself an HW99 in .22, you can pick them up new for £220 (Redbeck Air Rifles near Wakefield).

A very capable gun with metal sights, which is all you really need for close range ratty bashing!

I agree give the bsa springer's a miss because there shite especially the lightning get yourself a hw 95 but I would get it in 177 , like secretagentmole says redbeck air rifles will see you right great set of lads that give good honest advice .
