derek2012 32
Start playing a game of tug first so it really wants it for a while and then try Quote Link to post
stroller 341
turn your body to the side, lean down and take a few steps away to encourage the delivery. failing that get on the floor and encourage the pup to climb on to you. Or turn your back as he comes to you all of these work Quote Link to post
HPR 1,160
Sounds to me like you need to slow him/her down a bit in stead of doing a stright retrieve id get them to pick the ball then instead of letting them come straight back to you get them to walk at heal and do some figure 8 then sit them and take ball out only praise if they keep hold of it just ignore if they drop it it takes time but they get the hang of it Quote Link to post
britdog 15
Fully agree with HPR dog needs to see a reward and benefit bringing something back and letting you take it . Give praise when the dog holds the ball and nothing when it drops it dont ovet do the number of retreives in one session. Its not a big problem to solve good luck Quote Link to post
buggsbunny 4
Read the above post forced training/retrieving I do it and my dogs hold until I say so but at the same time they are happy doing it reward the good things correct the things they do wrong.
