.22Lr Barrel Threading

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at getting a cute little .22lr, however, from what I can tell, it's an unthreaded barrel, and I'm looking at adding a moderator.

How simple is it to get a barrel threaded so that it can accept a moderator?

Any idea of costing would also be appreciated.

I was considering having my 455 barrel shortened from 20" to 16". But it's choked and I'd worry about loosing accuracy. I could just buy a 16" barrel but I imagine there would be paperwork involved and it's not like I need it.

Some are I believe, yes.

what a rimmy :laugh:

:yes::tongue2:

i have had 2 shortened and never noticed any difference in accuracy although i read somewhere muzzle velocity is reduced but again i have never noticed any difference, if it was important i think the gunsmith might have mentioned it as hes been a gun smith for over 50 years :laugh:

Also, importantly, the muzzle end of the barrel is choked inside to ensure the best possible accuracy; even the 16in is choked and not just a shortened 20-in barrel.

Choking a rifle barrel may not make that much difference in your average rimfire hunting terms. But also the rifles you had shortened may not have been choked in the first place. :thumbs:

Just a niggling thought that would put me off. :laugh:
