If you're specially going out after foxes, BB and stick to 40 yards as your maximum range. I currently use 36gram BB's with plastic wad. I have used 3.5 inch 64gram BB carts when I could lay my hands on them. No harm either in patterning your shotgun with a few different BB loads/makes/weights to see what the pattern is like and where it's going.

34 or more gr of anything will kill a fox if you are close enough to get most of the pattern on it, I've used 3's and 4's but only at very close range, when flushed from cover.

BB's are the best, but keep the range as tight as you can, as John said 40 yards maximum, and to be honest I'd think twice about it even then. I feel much better at 30 yards myself.

That's true Compo, I just don't trust my marksmanship beyond that, so might as well be sure.

lol

Reminds me of an old fella i used to go hunting hares with (wasn't really coursing as he wanted them dead) i said "how much law shall we give them?" his reply "about a foot"

I said they work out beyond 30yards but to be honest i apply the same principle and tend to use them at about 20 yards, :gunsmilie:
