Popular Post Ideation 8,216
I had a really nice surprise visit today! I'd just got back from doing some work on the shoot, and a pick up I didn't recognise pulled up at my gate. . . . Out stepped a man (whose name i'll leave out), who I had met last summer at the Pelenna Valley hunt show, who had spotted my little hound and stopped me, telling me that he had bred the sire, and had a belly sister and brother to my bitch. We had a good chat, and I saw him once more last summer at another hunt show. Anyway, in came the pick up, and out of the back, jumped a scruffy terrier, and two cracking little hounds, immediately obvious relations to my bitch! We had a good chat in the sun, cuppa and sausage sandwich, and I learnt a lot about the history of my bitch, as the man had bred the line from the start. What a gent he was! So I can now tell you my bitch Gwen is on paper - 3/4 Beagle, 1/8 Teckel, 1/16 Cocker and 1/16 Russel. Her Dam was a Beagle bitch called Mango from the Claro Beagles in Yorkshire and her Sire was a dog called Fossil, who was 1/2 Beagle, 1/4 Teckel, 1/8 Cocker and 1/8 Russel. Her sire was bred by the man who visited today, out of a Beagle bitch from the Lonsdale Beagles and a dog called Bugle who was 1/2 Teckel, 1/4 Cocker and 1/4 Russel. Bugle was also bred by the man who visited today, and came from mating a Russel x Cocker bitch called Kate that he owned, to a registered Teckel originally from Nick Valentines pack, called Ryeford Merle, which he also owned. Sorry if that was a bit long winded, but I was fascinated and also a few folk have asked about her. Anyway, I had a great time today and enjoyed seeing the mans hounds, they were fine examples and I think he is onto a good thing, breeding his rough coated Beagles, I hope he gets where he wants with them . . . . I'm pretty pleased with where he's got so far, and look forward to seeing the hounds in action next year. If you are reading this. . . .It was a pleasure to meet you properly today Here are some photos of Gwen, Merlin, Music and Nettle the terrier. 28 1 Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
Cheers lads I was really impressed with the pair, and they were very much like my bitch in temperament, conformation etc. A pretty even litter. He has bred the next generation, and has a five month bitch out of Gwens brother, Merlin ( the black and tan dog) to another related bitch (can't remember what she is). And he half convinced me to put Gwens sire back over her one day . . . . Quote Link to post
