Ocset 91
A dog that's used to having a lead around its neck shouldn't strangle itself in a snare. You on drugs No, just a grown up. The countryside must be littered with set snares the way people are going on. Do you know how a snare works? Quote Link to post
Ocset 91
I suppose if you're just into hunting as a hobby or new to the game, then you'll slag off snares because you don't understand them. Much like some shooters call dog work inhumane and barbaric without actually seeing it done. Quote Link to post

nothernlite 18,089
mind in the late 70s my dog got caught in a gin trap some guy laid them for geese Ocset the snares that were round my dogs necks seemed to be like choker leas as you say just like a lead just slipped them over the dogs head .But i dare say if the dog was going at full pelt maybe the sudden stop would have done damage Quote Link to post

Often, when going to check rabbit snares, you'll get one that runs into a snare as it bolts for home and they can kill themselves from that. The places that you set fox wires are different to rabbit wires. A dog that walks into one shouldn't start choking itself. It's used to a lead. If it goes mental when a lead is placed around its neck then maybe the dog needs dealing with. Those of you who've actually had a dog caught in one, have found the dogs sitting/lying and unable to move. Those that are just talking crap believe that the dogs would be thrashing about or slowly choking to death. Quote Link to post
paulus 26
try finding a badger caught around the waist in one that has decided to dig himself in, there now non locking to prevent accidental death to dogs and other wildlife Quote Link to post
slip lead 862
Maybe it's not snares that I dislike then but some of the c##ts that use them. Because over the years I seen a large variety of dead animals hanging out of "fox" snares... Quote Link to post

Because over the years I seen a large variety of dead animals hanging out of "fox" snares... If they're not set correctly or in the wrong place then you will get accidental catches. Even when they are set correctly you'll get accidental catches but if the snares are checked regularly you can release a lot of these. It's usually badger and roe that get caught near me but I dare say that other species will be more prominent in other areas. Cats get caught in them, but that's the owners fault. If they kept a check on where they went or confined them to their own garden then they wouldn't get caught in snares, hit by cars, etc With a modern snare, the majority of these non target animals should survive.
