jcm 2,327
Before I got the terrier the lurcher would work any cover and tuck in to some tight cover but season just gone was the terriers first season and all was well however the lurcher rearley enters the cover and stays on the out side waiting for a bolt always watching and listening for where the terrier is in the cover and getting in position to where he thinks the rabbit will bolt. The lurcher be thinking feck that in mot getting no thorns in my back no more Quote Link to post
toolebox 1,561
Dogs are very good at working what they are best at ,a tall fast dog just cant build up much speed in heavy cover unlike a small terrier whos closer to ground level .If youre lurcher went in with the terrier it would fail to see any rabbits bolted ,a good team where every body knows their job always = more game in the bag . neems 2,406
I've heard people say this is why not to let a young lurcher out with a busher,it makes them lazy. I prefer it that way,the lurcher hunts up too far alone missing loads of stuff not really using his nose. get him out with a busher and he soon learns, probably more because he's so fecked from running off ahead and then turning back every time there's a bolt.
