wirral countryman 2,110
Hgn I look forward to it. HGN, are they meant to be working that hog or just annoying it?? I can't see any tusks on it ?? just looks like a tame pig, wild pigs have tusks and would throw them terriers everywhere, WM Quote Link to post

Should a terrier get a bad grip I've no doubt that pig would throw them about. A good snout hold would help calm it down though... 1 Quote Link to post

keith j 1,089
I've searched the topic and glanced through but not seen the question I have with a direct answer,as much as an assumed one. From someone who keeps and works them not just a rehash of what is wrote. I know they are supposed to be good ratters, bushing dogs, but what else. I don't even know anyone in the states with them and chances are,if they are here, they are showdogs. I think they are a sharp looking dog,but just curious. (I know most Plummer topics fail, but it doesn't have to ) I wonder the same of some other breeds, but will save them for when I run out of topics.uru. Hello uro how's you. Plummer terriers get a lot bad press on here for what ever reason as there are good and bad in all breeds,to much ego going on id say,my dogs this or that, but there are some genuine guys out there that work there plummers with excellent results whether it be bushing rabbits ,killing rats or going to ground or all as these dogs make good all rounders.but id say your dogs a good dog if it dose the job you ask of it whatever that may be.I myself have worked these little red and whites for ten years now with excellent results.i love bushing with them and ratting,i know most dogs will take rats but a good plummer is hard to beet,im not talking about the odd hunt here and there killing a few rats[not that there's anything wrong with that]but to kill them in number on a regular basis as these little dogs take a bit stick.Ive hunted with most types of terriers as have a lot of folk who own plummers but this is the breed i will be taking forward and working as they suite my needs just fine.happy hunting ATB Keith j. wirral countryman 2,110
Unlacedghecko, they were my thoughts entirely, I have moved large pigs on my brothers farm and when we're off to market they can be difficult to load into a trailer, my plummers are stock broken but if encouraged my 16 lb bitch will take a snout hold and drag them into a stock trailer, she will move sheep and cattle also, I just think that photo looks like ill-disciplined dogs worrying stock, any pack hunting hogs or boar would contain larger dogs more suited to hunting larger quarry otherwise the death toll would be massive among the terriers, I advocate and endorse any hunting with plummers but most are pets and will never see any serious work, I have seen them work all legal quarry pre-ban as good as any breed of terrier but these types are rare nowadays and are certainly in the minority, URU, legal photo's will not contain much as we are bound by legal restraints in this country, I have took a back seat on a few plummer threads lately to see who actually works these little dogs other than me and the head count has been as bad as the club sites, the club sites have some experienced people like "keeps","Lacey",etc, that observe threads but hardly ever contribute towards carrying it forward unless one of their little "clic" has previously, if they were genuinely interested in the working progress of Plummers then more contribution from the likes of these would help the breed get amongst working terriermen and not middle class ownership kept as pets. Keith, I love your enthusiasm for the breed and it comes across loud and clear, your posts do a lot for the breed and I wish there was more like you, anyway back to topic, WM 3 Quote Link to post

Also the hunters that hunt the blackberry patches use smallish dogs to travel the tunnels the pigs make through the bushes. 1 Quote Link to post
