JBerry123 1
Hi There, do you think a whippet would be happy in a kennel all year ? dont really want a frozen whippet in the winter ? Regards Josh Quote Link to post

derek2012 32
What kind of heating do you use Quote Link to post
Blackdog92 2,047
Are you serious about putting heating on for dogs? What's wrong with a draft free kennel and some hay or straw bedding? No wonder dogs are so soft. I keep my dogs out all year round and they never took any harm. I had a litter of pups born last January in -10 and they were totally fine. 4 Quote Link to post
slip lead 862
Never kept dogs in kennels but know people that do, a heat lamp or them tube heaters Might be something better on the market now. Quote Link to post
slip lead 862
A pure whippet will lose more body heat than most lurcher. I have one here and his like a hot water bottle. Quote Link to post

I have one here and his like a hot water bottle. true dogs shiver to try to generate heat, that's why some dogs loose weight in the winter if not in warm kennel , get a heat lamp(red bulb) deff for a whippet , a lurcher with more bodyweight+ coat ok no , but whippet heat lamp Quote Link to post
Moorside 642
Ive got one here and shes been kennelled since 10 weeks old with no problems. Theres some beddy in her so got a little more coat than most pure whippets but never had any problems with her losing condition/weight in the winter. Quote Link to post
jf1970 328
A draft free insulated kennel should be enough, along with good grub,no need for heat lamps or tube heaters IMO. Quote Link to post

philstory 83
A layer of kingspan insulation round interior of kennel then another sheet of ply. Snug as a bug in a rug 3 Quote Link to post
lifelong cumbrian 1,826
Why not just put a kennel jacket on a whippet instead of heating. Good insulated kennel and kennel jacket. Don't use any heating for my beddy/whip. Quote Link to post
slip lead 862
That king span is good stuff you can get it upto about 200mm. Bit pricey but I suppose cheaper than heating in the long run.. Quote Link to post
lifelong cumbrian 1,826
Done my shed like that, it is also good for keeping the shed cooler in summer. Quote Link to post
