neems 2,406
Simple if the kids in school dont want to behave and show no respect when in school then lets do the right thing for those who do want to learn and take out the bad ones and leave them to rot in hell plus change the law so 15 yr olds can do some proper time in jail. that's ridiculous, most kids hate school because once you can read, write and do basic arithmetic it's pointless for 99.9% of them, and they know it. I was a b*****d at school,so they let me go to work instead,I picked up more skills in those 3 years while my brain was still forming than I ever possibly could have in any academic environment. and I had a huge advantage when it came to getting a job over any of my mates who went to school and especially the ones who went to uni. they wasted the most important time of their lives, when they could have taken in anything, learning useless, irrelevant subjects. WILF 47,344
Neems, I have to say (and I was expelled at 14) that your first and last paragraphs are frankly bollocks !! I am big enough to admit that while the school system was very different in my time, I was I that didn't have the common sense to take advantage of all the things the education system offers Like most little shits, I just cut about with a chip on my shoulder making every c**ts life a misery thinking I was a bit special......I wasn't !! I was just another smart arse Turky in a long line of smart arse turkys !! Age and a little wisdom gives you the true picture, most kids now a bright enough to know a good thing when they see it and the education system is very good and very positive
neems 2,406
So aside from the basics, which probably didn't improve much from age 12-13 onward, what did school teach you? I wasn't expelled but without even attending school I got what I was predicted in my GCSEs. You get young people leaving school who can't even mop a floor properly or clean a window, all they know are the near useless subjects they learned at school, and most found those so boring they didn't apply themselves so barely even know that. We can't all be journalists, historians or scientists,in fact very few can. it's no wonder eastern europeans are taking all our jobs, and we're becoming known world wide for being lazy and unproductive. BIG G wheton machine 1,594
There's no respect in today's society, everything's just a disposable object same as a human life. Too many claiming their kids are sick with ADHD and other stuff when it's just a clip on the ear they need by responsible parents who care enough about how their kids turn out in life

It taught me plenty of little bits and bobs but obviously not muh after 14 because I never went after that. But let me tell you, as I always say to my kids, it's a f***ing piece of piss to be ordinary......that takes no effort what so ever !! It's about choices, I tell my nippers, get all the education you can, participate in the sport, do all the extra things like volunteering, Duke of Edinburgh, Army Cadets.......do well in your exams.......then you have more choices, I do t give a monkeys if they go and work stacking shelves if it makes them happy but at least they will have the choice not too if they get pissed off. It's all about being positive, well rounded people who are able to communicate with others........not being some two bob little twerp unable to string 2 words together. Be happy, but if you want to really earn some dough nowadays, you do with a degree and two clicks of a mouse NOT carrying a hod !

For me there should be 2 routes for kids once they've got the basics, vocational and academic. People like me and you probably held a lot of very smart kids back. Born Hunter 17,783
Whether you carry on your state education further or not does not effect the value of it. The basic education this country gives children broadens them as humans and opens their minds to what is out there. History, Geography, DT, Foreign Languages they all help to show a youngster the depth and breadth of the world they live in before they go on to tread their own path.
socks 32,253
I do think schooling is very one dimensional and if your not academically minded you are fukced ... My eldest girl is about to graduate from university with a degree in Japanese studies and English and is off to Japan to teach ... My middle girl is going in September to study history and Spanish and my youngest will be doing her A levels next year with a view to going to university to study sciences .... Now my boy barely scraped any gcse's as he just isn't classroom orientated but is a grafter and loves work ... Luckily he got an apprenticeship within the family as a builder and all the way through his college course he passed every practical test with top marks and finished as top student ... He now works full time has bought a house done it up and rents it out and is just about to buy his second ... Not bad for a 19 year old ... However for him school offered fukc all ... for my girls it offered them everything ..........
dare 1,103
If your the type of kid to bring a knife into school and stab your teacher then I don't think education has much help. Wouldn't even say its about teaching kids to be polite and decent members of society. It's simply not normal is it? I was always in all the top classes at school and didnt take it no where near as serious as I would if I could go back to be honest. Guess that's Sod's law though, and to be honest I'm still not 100% sure on what I wanna do for my whole working life. Without sound cocky in confident in myself though and that ill do alright. Keep trying to push my little sister to take school more serious. She doesn't mess around but she's not the brightest and don't feel my parents push her hard enough. Pisses me off that she's got a pretty decent laptop, iPad and the latest iphone yet does sod all worth while with them. It's just Facebook and FaceTime with her mates. Tempted to bribe her but I'm not made of money and think she should find a passion rather than being forced.
