paulus 26
Hi what size purse nets are best 4ft or 3ft 6 just ive been making the 4ft cheers depends on the size and shape of the hole, a selection of sizes is best Quote Link to post

Tiercel 6,986
You can make a big net fit a small hole, but you wont make a small net fit a big hole. TC 3 Quote Link to post
The one 8,482
Aye a big net will cover more holes than a small net , i only make 4 foot nets you can always stick a bit more net down the burrow but you cant add a bit Quote Link to post
ruggers13 268
Thanks for your comments but @ the one what you mean by you can't add a bit? Cheers Quote Link to post
Tiercel 6,986
Thanks for your comments but @ the one what you mean by you can't add a bit? Cheers If the net is too small for the hole you cannot add to the net. Another way of saying what I did. TC Quote Link to post
The one 8,482
Aye for years I ferreted with three foot hemp nets and would use two or three to cover large holes now I just use four foot spun nylon nets twenty meshes wide and have no problems Quote Link to post
ruggers13 268
Cheers tiercel that makes sense, @ the one with 20 meshes do you still start with 8 ? And i do 4 rows of 17 in the middle i watched it on youtube like you said and that said that its a 4ft net and what's the best material i bought some nylon nets but they seemed to tangle pretty easy so got recommended spun poly Quote Link to post

Leeview 791
I cant recall ever looking for a small net in the bag always look for the bigger ones, so with that in mind I make all my nets 23 rows on a 21/4" meshboard start at 8-18-8 giving me a 4'8" net suits all holes I come across Y.I.S Leeview Edited April 29, 2014 by Leeview 1 Quote Link to post
ruggers13 268
My mesh board is 2inch giving me a mesh of 4inch i start with 8 go up to 17 do 4 rows then reduce but the nets i bought was 1 inch by the look of it as there small meshes n also when i put it over the holes it didn't look right when i put it down the hole it kept pulling out when i put the peg in so seemed too small to me @ leeview i haven't had a full season yet i started in January and rushed buying stuff and not getting information first now im trying to make my own to get ready for next season aren't your nets too big ? @Paulus how do you know what weight the nets will end up? thanks for all your comment's Quote Link to post
The one 8,482
I bought my spun nylon from agouti . My first lot of nets are two inch mesh red nets with a yellow drawcord then the next lot are 2 and 1/8 th red net with a red drawcord straight twenty meshes from top ring to bottom ring start and finish the season with the yellow drawcord as the young rabbits dont slip threw them so easy Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,240
He doesn't know the weight riggers,,,,it was a misprint ,,,it should read 12 z ,,,not 12 oz,,,,, 12z refers to the thickness of the twine,,,,,personally I prefer a 2.1/8 ,,,or 2,1/4 mesh board giving you a 4.1/4 ,,or 4.1/2 mesh,,,gives the ferret a bit more space to get through the nets without disturbing them,,,,also some lads like killing by stretching the necks,,wich can be done with the rabbits head through the the larger mesh,,,,,personally I chin rabbits,,so that doesn't really matter.... But with any nets regardless of material ,,,size or anything,,,,setting them right is most important thing 4 Quote Link to post
