neil cooney 10,416
Buster, I blame a lot of todays hares habits on the upsurge in the buzzard population. Like you say, they live in woods and ditches and those that sit in the open often sit very, very tight. There's nothing I wouldn't believe of what a hares capable of. They're a highly adaptable creature that deserve nothing but the very highest respect. the rise in the buzzard population has had an effect on the hares here, being mainly pasture, leverets are an easy target, i once witnessed a buzzard attack a pair of hares in the corner of a field. coming in low over the hedge, it got a good kicking for its trouble but it didn't fly off after its kicking it just stood there at a distance for a minute or so,, maybe it thought they were rabbits but had either of them been very young or very old the outcome would have been different. Paulus , I'm only writing this because you boys banned Baw, LOL, but the buzzard IMO here in Ireland is the reason that the hare is in trouble. The Coursing Clubs, Lurcher men and the fox all get blamed but I can only say what I see with my own two eyes and I watch hares seven days a week. baws not banned he has just been reinvented Lord have mercy. thefensarefarbutistillgo 2,481
I f***ing hate buzzards killing leverets, I'd love to go on a rampage and shoot the lot of them, not sure how many leverets they do actually kill thow, could be hardly any or could be loads, who knows Quote Link to post
jeemes 4,453
I stood about eight feet from a Hare in her seat. She was facing directly away from me so arse was nearest to me but her eyes were looking straight at me. That was weird, i couldnt work it out for a bit..but then i realised it was true about there eyes swivelling round and so are able to see the dog approach so the turn can be timed just right. 1 Quote Link to post
thefensarefarbutistillgo 2,481
Buzzards have the weakest feet of birds of prey, that's why they can't keep hold of a fully grown hare 1 Quote Link to post

slip lead 862
I was at a coursing comp, south of England and a lot of hares were getting cought,a lot more than normal, so they sent a few of to be examined and it was found that the stuff they were spraying the crop with was f##king the hares digestive system up. I don't know if anything was ever done about pesticide. Quote Link to post

Probly nothing done the farmers and gov were up in arms the other year about a proposal to ban nicatinoides from being sprayed over oil seed rap when in flower as it was probably linked to the cause of the bees decline in the end a two year trial was agreed I think The bottom line is that we end up eating this shit aswell and they wonder why the cancer rates increase You tube codex alimentarias 3 Quote Link to post
